Yes, 3 CL spots and 3 UEFA Cup spots. Bayern, Leverkusen and Nürnberg play the UEFA Cup this season.

I wouldn't get too carried away. The opposition he was up against were rubbish.

That said, I think it could be something of a rejuvenation for him at Blackburn as I can't see you relying on him as heavily as Bayern seemed to want to, especially with Podolski proving to be such a disappointment last season.

With Bayern signing Klose and Toni it was probably best for both parties that Roque moved on.

On the subject of Toni, Klose and Bayern I can only echo what has been said already by Goldy etc.

Ribery in particular looks to be a superb signing as he's going to provide the creativity that Bayern missed last season and Lahm sounds like he's found his form already which can only be a worry for other teams in the Bundesliga.

Ribery, Van Bommel, Schweinsteiger and Zé Roberto supplying Toni and Klose. Quite a frightening prospect really.

I think Bayern won't play the CL this season, as they were pretty poor last season (4th position IIRC).

and even if they were they haven't got a particularly strong squad when it comes to quality backup players.

Even with just the league to focus on they're going to need their first choice players to stay fit if they're going to win it (as obvious as that may sound).

Yes, although their rivals all look weaker on paper this season than they were last season. But of course, football is not played on paper.

And they all tied their matches this weekend, but we obviously can't judge them (and Bayern) based only on 1 game.

Does anyone know how if Carlos Alberto played well today (in the Werder game)?

Bayern could have easily scored more than three against Rostock, but its first game of the season and all that, I believe they will get a lot lot stronger. Ze Roberto was decent I agree with that, he fought a lot in midfield to win the ball back.

Carlos Alberto didnt play for Bremen yesterday!

The new Lucio played for Hertha though, did ok from what I saw, put a couple of decent crosses in but obviously the Hertha strikers were nowhere to be seen!

Oh yes, the results from the weekend so far.....

10.08. 20:30 VfB Stuttgart 2:2 FC Schalke 04 11.08. 15:30 Bayern München 3:0 Hansa Rostock 11.08. 15:30 Bayer Leverkusen 0:0 Energie Cottbus 11.08. 15:30 VfL Bochum 2:2 Werder Bremen 11.08. 15:30 Hannover 96 0:1 Hamburger SV 11.08. 15:30 Eintracht Frankfurt 1:0 Hertha BSC 11.08. 15:30 VfL Wolfsburg 1:3 Arminia Bielefeld

I watched the 1st half of Dortmund's game and it was pretty decent. Duisburg was very violent though (at some point, they had made 17 fouls against 2 of Dortmund).

Borowski blow for Bremen

Werder Bremen have been dealt a big blow just days before their UEFA Champions League third qualifying round meeting against NK Dinamo Zagreb with the news that Tim Borowski will be sidelined for several weeks with a knee injury.

Ligament damage
The 27-year-old German international sustained ligament damage to his left knee during Bremen's 2-2 draw against VfL Bochum 1848 on the opening Saturday of the new Bundesliga season. Borowski still managed to complete the game but has already been ruled out of the first leg against Dinamo Zagreb at the Weserstadion on Wednesday.

Awkward fall
"After a challenge during the first half I fell awkwardly on my knee. I was able to continue playing but I could feel taht something wasn't right for the rest of the game," said 29-times capped Borowski. "I fear that he will be out of action for several weeks," added coach Thomas Schaaf. Borowski is due to undergo further tests to reveal the extent of the injury this week.
A really wonderful day, isn't it?
