Oh and with the games issue, they could quite easily release it with just the in house developed games so as to keep it a surprise, so it doesn't leak through a 3rd party and would ensure a good amount of launch games.

Also on the games issue if the virtual console is available on launch then there will be games to be had there.

If the original Mario Kart is available Ill certainly be getting it and playing it till my eyes bleed.

Will the Wii have an XBox Live style internet function? Will I be playing Super Smash Bros with people in Japan or will there not be much internet gaming on this console?

Big focus on internet gaming this time around, I think it was confirmed at last year's E3 that SSMB Wii would be online (but you'd have to check to make sure).

The online system will, probably, use the same as the DS with friend codes :thdn:

Late October is probably the more likely release date, my opinon is based solely on the idea that Nintendo will want to take away as much of the attention that will be placed on Sony at TGS as possible, and what better way to do that than to announce the Wii will be available in Japan a few days later.

And they've been making final production Wii units since June apparantly, which is obviously very early so leads me to believe early October.

It wouldn't matter when they release the Wii...all pre-orders will be sold out...for both Wii and PS3. At launch they wouldn't affect each other's sales because the machines held by retailers will have already been sold weeks prior. No one is going to buy a Wii as a substitute to a PS3 and vice-versa...

Nintendo has nothing to worry about I don't think anyway...the momentum is with them not Sony in any case...as much as the UK is Sonyland...

A big plus to Nintendo for keeping it free, but I hope that the friend code system is better implented than with the ds.

Haven't read much about this console. Is it true you will be able to play all the games from Nintendos previous consoles? If so I want one

Yeah it's called virtual console. You will be able to donwload nintendo titles of the past to your wii and play it on there for a small prize (1-10$ per game). There will also be other games for the virtual console, including sega titles and new games being made for the virtual console.
