Because major elements of sport are competition and unpredictability, and the bigger the gaps in income, the less of those two things you have. And it's putting the cart before the horse when the sport is used to generate income for businessmen, rather than income generated to improve the sport. </BLOCKQUOTE>
true but it's already happened, or at least that's the argument, how do you intend to reverse it without breaking the law? the only thing you can do is convince those with the money that it'll be beneficial to them as well if the levels of competition are more even, and to an extent this is already the case. The top clubs can't survive without the smaller clubs, and so there is a collective tv deal, there is some form of gate sharing in the cups, there is a percentage of the income going to the lower leagues and to grass roots football. If you want to increase it you'll have to give them a reason to that won't mean they are less competitive at European level etc though.
The only way to do that is to make the poorer clubs richer whilst maintaining the richer clubs riches, which is happening and leads to English clubs becoming more and more dominant in Europe, and then you get people starting threads complaining about the lack of competition in Europe and how Eng/Ita/Spa dominate. You can't please everyone all the time, especially in sport and in football, where to have winners you have to have losers.
As an aside the likes of Liverpool and United, and possibly Arsenal in the future, being overtaken by foreign owners because they are so profitable will eventually lead to some of their money leaving the game and thus the smaller clubs will close the gap a little.
