I just watched São Caetano-Santos for the Campeonato Paulista semifinals, second leg. Santos was awful and São Caetano crushed them very easily (4-0). Marcinho was the best Azulão player IMO. He's very skilful and he scored two goals today.

As for Santos, they didn't threat S*lvio Lu*s (São Caetano goalkeeper) in any moment.

I don't think colombian football is in decline, but the national team. Since the 1994 Qualifying they don't show a good team game, mostly lack of concentration on big events, lack of team psychological structure and inability to cope under pressure.

Copa América 2001 wasn't a real tournament. Many players of the big teams refused to go to Colombia after the Cup was postponed, afraid of narcoterrorism, don't you remember? It was a huge mickey mouse competition.

Their players, however, are quite good. Their participation in the last WC U-20 was brilliant, but these players won't be showing their value on a yellow shirt for some years to come, yet.

I remember those problems (one Brazilian player I think it was Emerson refused to play and Argentina and Canada gave up of the competition). Brazil and Mexico were in though the 2001 Copa América it wasn't that easy for Colombia.

But I do think that they are able to do better than they did recently.

quote:
São Caetano routs Santos to reach São Paulo state championship final

SAO PAULO, Brazil (AP)— Midfielder Marcinho scored a pair of goals Saturday as São Caetano routed favorite Santos 4-0 to reach the São Paulo state championship final on a 7-3 aggregate score.
São Caetano, the 2002 Copa Libertadores runner-up, will face either Palmeiras or Paulista, which meet Sunday in Araras in the other semifinal.

Azulão - as the team is called in Brazil - dominated the match from the start at its Anacleto Campanella stadium, giving no chances to Santos.

"We deserved it, we beat the best team in the country," Sao Caetano coach Muricy Ramalho said. "We did everything right today."

Striker Euller put São Caetano ahead with a header in the 38th minute after a nifty play by Marcinho, who dribble past defender Claiton on the left flank before crossing the ball to his teammate.

Striker Fabricio Carvalho added to the lead from 2 meters (yards) by chesting in a centering pass from midfielder Triguinho in the 51st.

Marcinho netted his first goal with a right-footer in the 73rd and closed the scoring with a one-timer from inside the box in the 89th.

São Caetano, which will play in the Paulista championship finals for the first time, had already surprised 2002 Brazilian champion Santos when it drew 3-3 in the first leg at Vila Belmiro stadium last weekend.

Santos' young sensations Diego and Robinho had a lackluster performance Saturday. Diego, who was substituted in the 60th minute, exchanged words with coach Emerson Leao as he left the field, visibly not happy with the commander's decision.

Santos, which lost to Boca Juniors in last year's Copa Libertadores final, hasn't won the Paulista championship since 1984, when it beat Corinthians.

In the Rio de Janeiro state championship, Vasco and Fluminense will play Sunday at Maracanã stadium in the Rio Cup final.

Veteran striker Edmundo and midfielder Ramon, who have missed action during most of the competition because of injuries, are likely to return to Fluminense's starting lineup.

The Rio Cup champion will play Guanabara Cup winner Flamengo for the title of the Carioca championship.

Lúcio and some other players, I remember, were impeded by their respective european clubs to go to Colombia, and Mauro Silva gave up on the last time, at a brazilian airport (or colombian maybe...). You can't say that Brazil "went" to that competition though. Guilherme, Marques, Jardel and Belletti on the starting eleven no one diserves.

Not to mention that Argentina wasn't even there.

I expect a good run by Colombia on the next Copa América, but I don't rate them anywhere near the 1st place.

I think Colombia can finish among the Top 4, along with Argentina, Brazil and Mexico or Peru. But I think Brazil or Argentina will probably win the title.

Yeah, and maybe Uuruguay can put in a nice performance ir Álvaro Recoba does get sold to a team in which he can be a real playmaker during the summer transfers period. If that happens I'm sure Uruguay will be much more inspired, and even that boy with Juventus can prove his worth then.

But I do hope Brazil wins.
