Estudante (PB) is unkown even in its own state (ParaÃ*ba) according to the Brazilian media. I never heard of them but I think they don't have a senior side.
Independente (SP) on the otehr hand, has a senior team and AFAIK it plays in São Paulo State Lower Divisions.

everytime i catch brazilian football on the tele i never see a goal.. is there a lack of goals in brazil or am i just catching the wrong matches ? i expect the latter

Yes. Santos made some very tricky buyings last season... Val Baiano, Rodrigo Hotti and that other guy, also a striker... very weird.
