Don't see why Renault would offer Alonso a one-year deal so he can swan off to Ferrari in 2009 though, sure he's a great driver but all the time you know he'd be racing for himself, not giving a feck about the team and just thinking about his Ferrari seat next season.

They'll probably offer him a compromise one year deal with an option for two based on their performance.

And to be fair he drove for 2006 with the McLaren deal finalised and still won them both titles so I'd not doubt his professionalism in that sense.

F1 returns to action at Barcelona

Formula One returned to action on Tuesday morning at the Barcelona circuit for the first test of the pre-season, less than a month before the end of the 2007 season.

All teams got their preparations underway at the Spanish circuit, where seven-time champion Michael Schumacher stole the show as he returned to proper Formula One action for the first time since his retirement from the sport.

The German took to the track early in the morning, carrying out testing work with the Ferrari F2007.

Meanwhile, Frenchman Sebastien Bourdais began life as an official Toro Rosso driver, while the new Force India squad made their track debut, with a revised livery, and with Giedo van der Garde and Roldan Rodriguez at the wheel.

Andreas Zuber made his Formula One debut when he tested the 2007 Honda, with Briton James Rossiter taking to the track in an hybrid car from the Japanese squad.

The Super Aguri team appear to be testing with Honda's 2007 car, with Anthony Davidson at the wheel of a mainly white machine.

Kazuki Nakajima is in action for Williams, while BMW are using racing drivers Nick Heidfeld and Robert Kubica. McLaren are testing with Pedro de la Rosa and Gary Paffett.

Other drivers included Red Bull's David Coulthard and Karun Chandhok, Renault's Heikki Kovalainen, Toyota's Franck Montagny and Jarno Trulli, and Ferrari's test driver Luca Badoer.

That's a good point.
I'd still be unsure about signing him or not though if I were Flavio but I suppose someone will isgn him so it might aswell be them.

Flavio loves him and has been publicly courting him for months to be fair, I really don't think that anything Fernando has done in the last year will change his mind.

Force India sticking with the F8-VII
No new chassis for the 2008 campaign

Force India will begin the 2008 season with essentially the car used by Spyker at the end of 2007, the F8-VII, it has emerged.

But according to the Dutch magazine Formule 1 Race Report, the newly acquired Silverstone based team plans to introduce a substantially modified model around the time of the 2008 British Grand Prix in July.

Spyker/Force India's policy is at odds with the more conventional practice in F1 of starting each season with an entirely new car and adding incremental development throughout the year.

"We plan a large step in the second part of 2008," team boss Colin Kolles confirmed to the magazine.

Force India in demand
Fisichella linked to test

Giancarlo Fisichella is expected to join the growing list of established Formula One drivers to test for Force India in the upcoming winter period.

The winner of three Grand Prix, who is looking increasingly unlikely to retain his Renault seat in 2008, will probably join fellow veteran Ralf Schumacher at the wheel of a Silverstone built car in December, numerous sources - including Diario AS, Die Welt and Sport Bild - are reporting.

Force India, formerly Spyker, has already confirmed that Christian Klien and Tonio Liuzzi will test at Barcelona this week alongside young hopefuls including Giedo van der Garde and Roldan Rodriguez.

Rodriguez told the Spanish news agency EFE that the addition of even more well-known names like Fisichella makes his quest for a race seat next year 'slightly more complicated.'

"It seems that everyone wants to come to this team," the Spanish GP2 driver said.

23-year-old Rodriguez admits that testing on day one (Tuesday) at Barcelona is a disadvantage compared to his rivals who will run on Wednesday and Thursday.

"But it's the day that I have and there is nothing to do about it. I am sure the team will take this into account, anyway," he added.

To Sport Bild, meanwhile, Ralf Schumacher's manager would not confirm reports that the former Toyota driver is lined up to test for Force India next month.

"I can not comment," Hans Mahr insisted.

Not looking like it'll be a good year for them
