David O'Leary felt the 'big decisions' went Doncaster's way in Aston Villa's surprise Carling Cup exit at Belle Vue.

Rovers were awarded a first half penalty when Liam Ridgewell handled James Coppinger's cross while Villa were denied after the break when Milan Baros went down in the box.

"There were a couple of big decisions. I thought a big decision went for them which influenced the game," O'Leary said to Sky Sports.

"The second goal was a poor goal on our behalf and an important goal - it was important for us to get the next goal after the interval."

O'Leary believes Doncaster played good football on the night and concedes they fully deserved to progress in the competition.

"Good luck to Doncaster, they're a good footballing side and try to play football," he added. "They've beaten Manchester City and ourselves.

"In the second half they were better than us. We came here not with a patched up side but to win and do well."
