Brilliant.
I have to admit, while most of the episodes are pretty OK, the 45 minute format leads to a jump cut/jump cut/jump cut bang/bang/bang form of storytelling.
Tonight's story was getting back to the old style of Doctor Who drama (that The Empty Child/The Doctor Dances did so well too) of taking the time to build up layer after layer and give the whole thing some atmosphere that just isn't possible in most of the 45-minuters.

Last time I watched this was the comically bad depression era NY episode, with the pigmen, but that episode that was really good. Sinister bad guys (kudos to the lad who played Baines, he was really good), walking scarecrows and a proper cliffhanger ending. OMG who's he going to choose?

Glyn's nailed it. I loved the slower pace, the next episode will ramp up the action anyway.

Magnificent ep, loved the way they threw in the words 'The Master' just to get people (like me) rambling and the drawings of McGann and Ecclestone made me literally whoop with joy (yes, I'm extremely sad). Also, Martha giving John Smith a slap was brilliant. Can't wait to see how this develops, could prove to be a challenger to Girl In The Fireplace, Parting of the Ways or The Empty Child/Doctor Dances for best episode of the new series so far.

thought that was brilliant. I was think about 2/3 of the way through, this is the 1st time I've watched a Dr Who episode and really felt the story was strong enough to be spread over a much longer period. Really hope next week is as strong.
