It reminded me of when they set fire to the car wash in Top Gear

Anyhoo, loving the new series - I like Martha cos she's a bit more intelligent than Rose - gives it a nice new dynamic.

Queen Elizabeth The First at the end of the Episode saying "The Doctor............My Mortal enemy"

People on Outpost Gallifrey message boards pondering what the Doctor might have done to upset old liz. Somepeople suggest that maybe he didnt do anything to her at all and that it ties in to "tooth and claw" Where Queen Victoria banished The Doctor from her lands and that he wouldnt be welcome anymore and treated as a criminal.

So people thinking that the Queen who reigned from 1558 to 1603, rather than having met the Doctor sometime before 1559 was influenced by the Queen who reigned from 1837 to 1901 and her interaction with the Doctor.

It is rather scary.

But I thought we might have been expected to know why Elizabeth I considered him her mortal enemy, I'm presuming we aren't?

No. Because Martha said to the Doctor "what did you do to upset her" or something along those lines. He replies with "I don't know yet. that's the beauty of time travel."

So because we're left not knowing. That's why there is speculation as to what he did and resulting in some guys at the Outpost Gallifrey message boards that seem to think that it's something passed down from Monarch to Monarch as a result of the Doctors interaction with Queen Victoria. Totally ignorant of the fact that Victoria lived around 300 years later than Elizabeth and therefore it cannot be anything to do with that.

Apparently, we'll find out in next year's historical. Can't remember where I read that, but I don't think it was anywhere particularly reliable.

I'd imagine that rather depends on if Tennant does series 4, as she recognised him by sight, so it has to occur pre-regeneration.

I was just about to post that, although i've just got that feeling that DT will only do half of season four.

To be honest doesn't matter if we find out or not what he did to upset her.

The old series sometimes referred to events that were never seen i.e. Hartnell throwing a parsons nose at Henry VIII to be sent to the Tower of London in order to recover the TARDIS, the third Doctor hobnobbing with the likes of Napoleon, Francis Drake and Chairman Mao, the fourth Doctor stating that it was he who wrote Hamlet for Shakespeare as Will had sprained his wrist writing sonnets etc.

If they are going to serve up historic settings then I'd rather they went to new ones rather than revisiting previously visisted times.

Not to mention all the references in the first couple of episodes of the Ninth Doctor and the places he turned up that we never got to see, what with the suggestion he'd only just regenerated at the start of the series.
