IIRC in one of the early drafts of the 1996 McGann story, it was to be revealed the Master and Doctor were brothers, so it's in idea that has definitely been considered by production teams before.

Personally I hope it isn't The Master and that we're being served up a huge red herring. Was never really a huge fan of the charcter of The Master. To be he encapsulated everything a bad B movie villain would have, though both Delgado and Ainley did their best with the role.

tbh ive always thought the The Doctor & The Master were once amicable, i'm sure there's a mention somewhere that something happened to divide them

think it was along the lines of "somebody died" and its hinted the doctor was the one who was at fault not the master.

Superb episode that one, far and away the finest 'historical' seen yet. Martha is already infinitely more charming and amiable than Rose, DLK was superb as Shakespeare (maybe a few too many "That's quite a good line..." jokes, though the Sycorax one was delightful) and David Tennant gave one of his best, most subtle performances yet. The witches were a bit 'stock villain', but a lot of fun and agreeably period-appropriate. Another cracking episode and with next week's one of the big ones, it's lining up to be a very strong series indeed...

Great episode tonight. Great lines, a few too many references to Shakespeare's later works, great gag with the hearts, laughed at the implication of Shakespeare's bisexuality.

It certainly was a cracking episode.

Did anyone catch the Doctor saying that he failed the Tardis pilot exams?
AIUI that ties in with some of the books where he failed his exams and stole an old Tardis to travel.

I liked the idea where he's never met Queen Elizabeth before and she says that he's her "mortal enemy"
He has a habit of antagonizing English queens.


IMO Christina Cole has taken over Sophia Myles' mantle of hottest guest star.


Next week could be the first setup of the big finale with old big head finally saying his piece (I mean Face of Boe, not Brian Clough)
