Best season opener yet for me. I echo the sentiments about the loveliness of the new assistant.

First episode did well in the ratings as well. An average of 8.2 million people watched it, with the episode peaking at 8.9 million in the five minute breakdowns.
Be interesting to see how it fares next week as ITV have a show starting about 15 minutes before Doctor Who searching for stars for grease musical - potentially the biggest challenge ITV have put up against Doctor Who since Ant & Dec for series one - though Doctor Who won that war comfortably.

Slightly out on the peak figure in the previous post - the text below if from Outpost Gallifrey.
Unofficial overnight figures show that the first episode of the new series was watched by 8.2 million viewers, a 39.5% share of the audience.
The programme was the most watched on Saturday, beating the second placed Any Dream Will Do by 1.5 million viewers.
Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets on ITV1 was watched by 4.7 million viewers.
The programme also had the highest audience share of the day.
The five minute breakdown shows the audience grew by over 2 million throughout the programme to peak at 9.1 million between 7.35 and 7.40.
Doctor Who was also top of the Children's Top Ten with 1.6 million viewers between the ages of 4 and 16. This was more than double the number viewing the second placed Harry Potter which had 0.7 million children watching.
On BBC3, Doctor Who Confidential was watched by 790,000 Viewers. It was the second most watched programme on multi channel TV, being beaten by Ford Football Special on Sky Sports 1.
There have been slightly mixed reviews about the episode from some of the national media but all of them have been as positive about Freema as we have on here so far.

DVD Update:
Monday 2 April saw the release of the vanilla DVD of The Runaway Bride. It only has the Christmas episode on the DVD but as a bonus it also includes the Doctor Who Confidential special that was transmitted on Christmas Day looking behind the scenes at the Children In Need Concert showcasing Murray Gold's music from the first two series. The episode features large chunks of the concert and is probably worth getting the DVD for even if (like me) you didn't particularly rate The Runaway Bride.

MS: "Doesn't she look tired." That was it, wasn't it?
SJS: I do believe so. Wouldn't want the same thing happening to you, seeing as how so many people trust you.
MS: (laughs) Indeed...
SJS: They'd have to call the doctor in otherwise.
MS: ...what?
SJS: (laughs) I'm sorry, Mr. Saxon. Let's hope you don't feel too strained to warrant that.
MS: ... (laughs) Yes...let's hope not.
