Miller's Crossing - Very good mobb movie with Gabriel Bryne and John Turturro. Steve Buscemi makes a great cameo appearance. Recommended.

What're the thoughts on the sixth addition to the Rocky franchise then? I saw it last weekend and I thought it a contender for best Rocky yet. What with Rocky stepping back into the ring as a grandfather-esque boxer type going against the reigning champ, I had the feeling that it would be something like Rocky 3 and 4 and a bit unrealistic to boot. But it wasn't at all. It was much more Rocky 1/2ish and everything about it just worked with an immense climax and excellently done fight. Stallone was in form also. Against all odds, I enjoyed it a lot more than I thought I would.
Want to see The Departed soon also. I've heard much praise and it's one that's caught my eye.

I know what you guys mean, about the 'formulaic Hollywood cringiness' but I thought the fact that it was very convincing, made me forget about the usual formula etc.

Just seen The Departed.
Don't think it ws as good as the original. Although Di Caprio and Damon are good, I felt the lead roles were played better the first time. And it just seemed a bit to "clean" for me (if that makes sense).
Still pretty good though.

Probably didn't help that I thought the fundamental message of Blood Diamond was disgusting, too, so there wasn't much of a chance that I'd be convinced by the entire film.

Rep Power: 0 | The Pursuit of Happyness Went to the cinema last night to see this, Will and his son give very good performances but becuase i knew the outcome going in (as many will) i didnt get overly concerned for the main character. Apocalypto Saw this on thursday and wasnt impressed at all. I thought it was going to be much better, i have enjoyed Gibsons previous films but this wasnt on a par with Braveheart or Passion of the Christ. To much repetitive running through jungle, fight, run a bit more, check his wife hasnt drowned yet, more running - repeat until credits. Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls I bought the two Ace Ventura films a while back for a bit of nostalgia, I watched the first one last week and caught the second last night and what a film, much better than i remember. Very funny, moves along at a fair pace and even has an appearence from a thinner Mr Eko Notting Hill Also watched this last night, in another topic someone mentioned this and I thought i would watch it as I have it on dvd. I dont mind admitting to being a fan of Hugh Grant, I like him and his bumbling toff english comedy routine. Also a joy to see Rhys Ifans as Spike.
