ok so I had a stab at Bahrain with manual gears and I quite like it. Can do steady 1:33s with manual gears.
Only
prob is the controller slowly slides out of my hands and it really uncomfortable
I like using the L2 R2 buttons for brake and gas and having triangle and square for gears is just murder, x and circle would've been so much better

That's a bit rubbish, I've not really messed around with the controls apart from when I tried the tilt mode for a laugh once.

Hahaha I'm so suspicious of tilt mode that I won't touch it. Just sounds like a holocaust without even having tried it.
