Sepahan play as host because no country is allowed to have more than one team in the competition.
Since Urawa Reds won the Asian CL, they have a byew to the Q-Fs, which means another spot (the hosts one) became available and was filled by a team from the same Confederation (Sepahan).
If Sepahan had won the Asian CL title, Antlers (J-League champions) would have played against Waitakere Utd today.
Thanks for the explanation. Only Brazil can have two teams then
You mean because of the edition played in 2000, in which Vasco and Corinthians played (and beat Man Utd, Real Madrid and some other crap teams to each the final)?

Different format :p
Apparently, FIFA will open the CWC up for rotating hosting from the 2009 edition.

does anyone in Europe really care?
I doubt it

Yep, I think the tournament has huge potential. Sure, maybe not many people care now, but that was the same for the first few European Championships in the 60s. Will become an extremely important tourney in the future
Incidentally... have or haven't FIFA rubber-stamped Palmeiras as 1951 World Champions on the basis of their Copa Rio win? And if so, has an official request for 1952 been filed?

Said it before, will say it again: FIFA ought to have it as a two-yearly event in the odd years between the WC and the Euros/Copa America, with 16 clubs. That'll see it taken seriously across the board.

Man U were really crap at back, especially Gary Neville and Silvestre. Although Edmundo-Romário > *
I remember two beautiful goals from that tournament, one from Anelka who rounded Dida a la Pelé v Uruguay and a great one by Edmundo after a beautiful lob (not sure if it's a french word tbf) against United .
Mohamed Amine Chermiti is the striker  and I think, not sure, that Mohamed Ali Nafkha is the midfielder.

IIRC, the decision was to be made in November.
FIFA haven't decided yet, although a preliminary decision supported Palmeiras claims. Fluminense were waiting this decision, I think, so they haven't filed any request yet.

Although I said Real Madrid was crap too, tbf they were pretty good, at least in the match against Corinthians. I can't really remember their other matches (even though I watched them).
Those Vasco goals vs Man Utd were great indeed.
I'll take a look at those Tunisian players.
