utter utter turgid gash again.
I dont care if its based on comic books ffs and that should not matter it should be adapted to the media on which it is being presented. the fact that it may have been originally a comic doesnt excuse rubbish storylines and charcters that you rather see beaten to death than empathise with.
I can hardly remember a series that promised so much in its first year and turned into such utter tripe in its second year.
Things that suck and in no particular order:
1. Ando having to wait ages whilst hiro time travels - like he couldnt just come back a second after he went.
2. West
3. Stupid mimic woman
4. Niki
5. Mohinder being so quickly brainwashed by the company
6. Peter and his sudden affection for Kaitlin
7. Sylar losing his powers
8. The fact that they are all split up again
9. Stupid plot inconsistences
10. Infact the whole damned show just sucks
11. Lycangav trying to defend everything and be taken seriously whilst at the same time admitting to reading comics

His overall post seems to indicate he feels it's rather dull though. And I can't say I blame him. Whether the 360 stuff is "indicating" certain things or not, stuff like Suresh becoming an easily led dullard is just down to either a lack of invention, or dull writing. Extras putside the TV show aren't going to change that.

He's spot on on points 2 and 5 though.
And Gav, you clearly know a lot more about the take up of the 'extra' stuff, but it strikes me that with the cutthroat ratings-focused nature of US TV, Heroes might be shooting themselves in the foot in the long run with this approach. If 'casual' viewers like myself are being inclined to switch off then I can't see it being sustained as a TV show on the basis of success in other mediums.
Also, I get the impression that the 360 has 'evolved' as it were - what about the poor British bastards who have to wait until series two? It'll all be done and dusted by then won't it?

West is indeed annoying, but was always going to be, due to the circumstances surrounding why he was introduced. Yank fans were crying out for a Peter/Claire "hook-up", to the point they had started an online petition (I know), were sending in letters ala Jericho, starting up websites, etc...... Keen to not promote incest, Loeb and Kring had to introduce love interests for Peter and Claire. Already mentioned my thoughts on Mohinder's state of mind atm. Not excusing either, West ****es me off as much as anyone, although last week went a long way towards redemption.
I'd say he has a much better point with 4 and 8, but some of his other points are just plain nonsense, and that's only using the first ten. Hiro doesn't have complete control of his abilities yet, proven by the fact he ended up in ancient Japan in the first place, so how the **** could he time his returns to the present to a second? Sudden affection is a staple of TV nowadays like it or not. If they did emotions realistically, we'd have them falling for one another over the course of what? A year? Then he'd complain about how long and drawn out it is. Sylar had to lose his abilities, if he didn't we would have simply had season one all over again, constant Sylar vs Peter running battles.
The advantage Heroes has over alot of other shows Neilsen's wise is it has a fairly large, reliable core audience, which makes it kinda bullet-proof. More and more TV shows are moving towards a "multi-media experience" where you have to put in more effort to get the full experience. We had a thread about it a while ago. Love it or loathe it, it does seem to be the way television as a medium is evolving, and Heroes seems determined to be one of the front-runners. Actually, NBC as a network seem to be championing the cause, with a few of it's shows trying to push various boundaries. It's not for everyone, admittedly, but very little ever is.
In regards to overseas audiences, some countries are running their own stuff. The BBC are producing, in partnership with NBC and Loeb, a totally independent 360 experience for British viewers, which has been getting some fairly impressive numbers by all accounts. The comics are still up on the NBC site for all to read, so they can follow those too, just as long as they have the sense and patience not to skip ahead.
I'm not saying this season is fantastic, I've been a critic of alot of stuff this season too, especially West and Nikki. However, I recognise alot of the problems as things that exist in comics as a medium that are simply not translating well to TV (falling in love inside one issue, brainwashing inside three pages, plots "reseting") and so I am more forgiving. around 90% of the artistic and writing staff are from the comic book industry, it'll take them some time to get used to working in a less forgiving medium.
