There was a ticket free but I was on holiday anyway so couldn't make it.
Just finished a 2 hour NL session, pretty demoralising stuff. On one table the aame guy hit 3 sets against my TP AK AK and AQ which which was pretty expensive. On another table I'd managed to double my buy in but that was blown to pieces when someone hit a higher FH than me. (AA777 vs JJ777)
No fun at all. Down 100BB

Just finished 2nd in a 5 BBP buy in 10 player single game. lost it in pretty much one hand where i just didn't look at the turn card and didn't see the obvious flush situation and bet a lot there.
Well, 15 BBPs ain't bad for my first game in ages. was inspired by the game i watched a couple of weeks ago

I have been doing good in BBP freerolls this weekend, or more specifally yesterday. 6th from 800 in the 1st one, then 4th from 800 in the one immediately after.
However whenever I enter any BBP MTT's that you have to pay to enter, for example the BBP events on the real money tab of PP, I find everybody is a hell of a lot tighter and thus its a lot harder for me to do well, so for now I will stick to these crappy BBP events and not put any real money onto internet poker sites, although I am tempted. I still havent read any of the poker books mentioned on the first couple of pages of this thread yet, so I intend to wait until I have before I get involved with real money.
Had a horrible bad beat today, A10 suited, raised preflop, 3 callers, flop comes JQK rainbow, 1 all in, 1 fold, and a call to the all in, so I call all in as well. Original all in has top pair (LOL), caller has QQ, and rivers a J to make his boat. Grrrrrr. Allthough I was angry, I know that I want these people to make moves like this, betting into a flopped nut straight, cos more times than not I will take the hand down.

Darkhorse, that is not really a bad beat nor is it bad play on his part, he had a set of Qs for Christ's sake. Annoying that you got sucked out on but he had a lot of outs - 1xQ, 3xK, 3xJ on the turn then the same again plus 3 more on the river.
%win
Qd Qh 34.34
Ac Tc 64.75
We wins over one third of the time. Unlucky but not horrible. Depending on the stack sizes I doubt he could get away from his hand and you certainly couldn't, these things happen.
Been a while since is posted how I've been getting long, not sure if anyone cares but **** it.
After a successful term at university which yielded a decent £133 profit from my first live play experiences I came back home and deposited £100 in my empty online account, looking to pick up where I left off over Easter. I planned to concentrate almost entirely on my cash game since tourneys were a little time consuming. I started playing 2 tables of .10/.20c giving me a healthy 10 buy ins. Success came almost immediately and I was soon up to $280 dollars. Confident I was back in the saddle I moved up to 25c 50c which was where I spent most of my Christmas cash game time. Again success was forth-coming, at its peak my bankroll touched the heady heights of $350, not for long though.
The turning point came as I decided that 9 handed games were dull, waiting of a top bracket hand, push money in centre, hope for call win/lose was getting monotonous. While I do play for the money I mostly play because its fun, I need a change of scene while still working on my cash game. The result? short-handed poker. While I was clicking join I vaguely remembered hearing something about short handed NL being 'poker crack' but I ignored to dissenting voices and pressed ahead. They were not wrong, suddenly hands came round in second not minutes. I was betting raising and reraising, here I found a game which matched my aggressive style far more than the turgid 9 handed games I had been playing. The adrenaline was flowing and I was having much more fun.
However in poker fun can sadly be expensive. Suddenly my profits were gone, up in smoke and I was left staring at $201 a mere $6 gained for a weeks worth of play. Some desperate raises were made and I was down. Minor setbacks aside my poker career has been an upward curve, to hit such a downswing and actually lose money I’d invested from my own bank account was a shock. While I maintained, as many a better player has before me, that I was suffering from the dreaded ‘variance’, it is obvious in retrospect that a combination of inexperience, bad play and bad luck had brought me back to earth. Clearly this 6 handed beast needed more caution if it was to be harnessed in profit. I readied myself to drop limits and win.
Yet just as my resolve was strengthened and my focused renewed real life, something which has no place in the fantasy land of online poker turned up. A couple of checks go through and a couple fail to turn up and suddenly I am staring straight at the hard wall of my overdraft limit. I may be a gambler but I’m not a fool, £80 had to return to the real word. All I could afford was £20 to keep my poker pastime alive.
Having visited the world of 6 handed poker there was no way I was returning to a full ring game. Money was taken and redeposited at a fresh site for a fresh start. The game would be .5/.10 NL. I had only 3 buyins for such stakes so I was praying for lady luck while I was venerable, she could take it back when I was richer. To my immense relief she was indeed kind and over a few days may bankroll worked from $35 to $55 to $70 and finally over $100 a sufficient bankroll to take on.10/.20. It seems odd given that over Christmas I was regularly playing .50 $1 ring games and twice played for over $1000 heads up in tournaments but returning to .10/.20 having had to fight my way up was immensely satisfying. Perhaps it was because my $150 downswing has knocked my confidence or maybe because I had to relearn my game from the 6 handed variant. Either way playing at lower stakes did not diminish my enjoyment. My account now stands at a healthy $160 and I feel comfortable with the 6 handed game. The push to .25/.50 is on and hopefully a return to my previous heights is not far away, this time properly bankrolled and experienced.
Long post and mostly ******** (and not checked properly) but kind of nice to review my game over the last week and a half. Plus I have a dissertation to write tomorrow and that wasn’t a bad warm up.
