Personally, I wouldn't have raised quite as much after the flop, if he'll fold to a 3000 bet, he'll probably fold to a 1000/1500 one. Then, I wouldn't check the turn in a million years, I'd be betting an awful lot here. If on the turn he calls and spikes his river then you can say oh well you played it right, he just got lucky. By giving him the free card on the turn you let him catch.

I realise that DP but if I was betting the turn i'd be all in (for another 4000 or so), and i was so convinced that he'd had me beat after the flop that I decided to keep my 4000 chips for later in the tournament. I didn't bet cause I thought I was beat.

The thing is, online I'd have had no trouble whatsoever in clicking the all in button after the turn. Live play seems different.
I'm playing in the UK student poker championships in St Andrews in a few weeks, anyone else on here going? We've got our VC sponsered tournament on tuesday as well, they're putting up $500 prize money

What could he have that beat you after seeing the way the hand was played. If he had AA,KK or QQ he may well have been right back over you after the flop. Trips is probably ruled out as there aren't too many people that play low pp to a raise. (some people do, but even so I think it's unlikely)
I'd stick as many of my chips in as I can on the turn with JJ. If I'm beat then I'm beat. Its still quite unlikely. The way you played it you gave him infinate odds to catch his final card.

Yep true but i put him on a set after the flop with when he called. I realise it was a mistake now, i'm going to have to be more confident in my own hands instead of putting my opponent on the best possible hand no matter how good i think he is.

I never read the end of your first post. Based on what you put him on you did well to get away at the end, regardless of how badly you played the turn you made the right play on the river. I thought he'd knocked you out.
