your kicker is a 7. if the river was in fact a 2 or something, then of course you havent done anything wrong, theres no poker rule against staying in with nothing, its to be encouraged

I can see why he is annoyed but as a low stack, he would be happy if you called along and then lost the pot. He is just annoyed cos you put him out I think.

Awful call but like everyone else has said thats a split pot. There's certainly no etiquette rule that says you have to fold.

Ps won our uni game again last night which puts me £138 up after investing £142 giving me a healthy £1.97 return for every £1 staked.

Hrm, come to think of it it may not have been a 7, may have been a 5 or something. Well it must have been, because I won and I definately had 46 and he definately had 44.

So was I wrong to play along or was I in the right morally to play (even though from a poker POV it was wrong as I had very little to go with)?

There are no morals in any sensible poker game that dictate when you can or should call bet or raise. There are however rules that dictate good play and calling when you can only beat someone who can't beat the board is not a good play. In the long run you're bound to lose more money than you win. The guy you called is just annoyed because his bluff didn't work.

To add slightly more detail, he probably thought 'well I dont think he has a J or Q so its down to high card, I don't have one but I bet he doesn't either. If he does have an A or even a K he might call and then i'll be out, fair play. If I catch him with a 10 or less he'll have to fold and I'll pick up the pot. I don't think he has an A or K or he'd have bet by now, I'm all in'

At which point you call only for him to find that his read was correct but you called anyway with an awful hand which still beat his even worse effort.

On the other hand I could be given him too much credit and maybe he was annoyed that the turn counterfitted his pair, who knows?
