Been honing my game in small buy in ($1 and $3) ST cash games at sporting odds. After playing 30 tourneys i've won 13 and have 5 second place finishes. The standard is pretty terrible.
Also Cobbler is completely correct regarding bluffing on low stakes tables, it applies to no-limit poker as well. I have seen a few examples of players calling sizeable bets all the way down after missing the flop, just hoping to pair, for example, their Ax. In low limit I've found it pays to play tight and sensibly up until heads-up where you can bully the opponent a bit more.

Had a crack at a $20 STT today Omaha Hi, pot limit. Came so close to winning, with 3 left I flopped a full house Queens full of 8s. The blinds were quite high so I raised the pot, guy puts me all in with a pair of aces in hand and catches his card on the turn. Ended up 2nd, but I'd won that I'd have been heads up with about 4:1 advantage over the other guy.
Quite happy tonight, had 2 STTs where heads up I came from nowhere to win, first I was 4:1 down, second I was abuot 9:1 down and still won both times.

| It was started up recently Anton, the email is strathpoker@hotmail.com. I never managed to win the tournament on Wednesday but I'm going to the UK student poker championships anyway as the guy that won it is selling me his ticked that he won. It's in St Andrews in April, is anyone else going?
Just had a magic night at the riverboat £5 re-buy tournament. I got to the final table with the average number of chips (about 50000) to find out only the top 3 paid!! And it had to finish in an hour so if there were four or five left then the payouts were decided by the top 3's chip counts. And it wasn't proportional either, it was highest stack wins £1100, second highest wins £670, third wins $420!
Anyway after I got dealt the big slick a few times I was in a good position and it was down to five. I knocked the fifth guy out and I was second in chips. There was still twenty minutes to go though and the blinds were large, I was sh!tting it with the brutal structure and the though of getting nothing.
There wasn't that much in it when the last four hands was announced. Then something wierd happened, the two blinds (after myself and the button had folded) started raising and reraising each other. I was loving it but realised it left me third in chips, I wasn't really complaining. The guy on the button tells me they are cousins and are obviously donating chips to each other and splitting the first prize. I thought he was lying until they were both all in with K 8 os and A 2. They had both been tight as fck up till then. Blatant collusion but nothing was said so nothing could be done about it. One of them was then left nearly knocked out and the other left with a massive chip lead.
We played out to the last hand and before it decided to do a deal. For some reason the shortest stack who had no chance of getting any money (apart from splitting the first place money which had obviously been agreed) got £350, and we split the rest between us. £626 each!! And I only invested £10.
I didn't understand the deal. The chip leader gained nothing out of it as they were gaurenteed the £1100. I was third and could only get second if I had pushed the short stack all in and then I could have ended up with nothing. I was obviously folding and taking my £420. It seems that without actually saying anything they managed to negotiate a deal that benefited me the most! Nice.
Anyway sorry for the essay/story but it's by far my biggest single win in poker to date and I'm claiming it as a joint 1st place . The ridiculous structure made it a lottery and I'm not sure if I'll play it in every week knowing how the payouts work.

KUTGW
There is a section in TPFAP by Sklansky that talks about calculating deals. You should check it out for next time. I can't remember it off the top of my head.

Oi Rekwob,
You moved over to party yet? If you have what's your nick? Anton told me you play 3/6 limit and i'd like more insight in limit poker tbh.

Nice work George
I emailed that address a few days ago, waiting for a response, if you meet up with them anytime soon tell them to check it.
I know that me and toille are going to the student championships, not sure about any others from here.

having fun but making mistakes, i've folded twice now on hands i would have won. First one had AA but figured someone had more so I folded before putting in to much, winner had AA8 and I had AA9. Then the other one come to right before the river and I had AT and folded because I didn't have anything helping me out on the flop, then an A came out and the winner only had 99.

| If you never fold a hand that you would have ended up winning, that would be a mistake!
