Player A: Father born in England, but moved to Bolivia at the grand age of one day, never to set foot in England again. Mother is Bolivian. Player A, born in Bolivia, does not speak a word of English, nor has he ever been to England. He can't point to the country on a map, and has no idea who the Queen is.

Player B: Born outside the UK to foreign parents, but moved to England the day after he was born. British citizen, has never set foot outside England.

Now, according to you, A should be allowed to represent England, while B shouldn't. Surely I'm not the only one who thinks that's absurd?

(I still think you're just trolling though)

The fact is they do have a claim, if the current law states that.

I'd be eligible for 5 internation nations I think, would probably play for any of them given a chance, as I don't feel especially close to any of them.

Djorkaeff, Armenian parents, born in France.

Lizarazu, Basque (not a country, I know).

Boghossian, Armenian/French

Trezeguet, Argentine/French

Also, there's a handful of players coming from the French colonies, like Guadelope, French Guiana and the Antilles.

But according to some in this thread they're not really French, and I guess France should've been disqualified or something. Also, it's obvious they neved had the passion to play and perform for their country. After all, they only won the World Cup.

Unlike passionate passionate, true English players , always putting in a huge performance when wearing that England shirt...

But I guess it's time you lot shouting about "it's in the blood" start telling the English FA to get rid of Shaun Wright-Philips. He is, after all, Jamaican/Grenadian. Isn't Campbell, Bent and probably a few more Jamaican as well? And doesn't Cole have som Barbados-blood in his veins?

This discussion is stupid anyway. If Almunia, like all the players mentioned above, feels like playing for a country he's eligible to play for, go ahead. Why bother?

I did read something about Darren Bent's dad looking into whether or not Darren and Marcus were related somehow, I think there was something about both families coming from Jamaica.

Zidane is of Algerian descent, Henry and Anelka both French/Martinique.

The whole Catholic and Protestant thing is becoming an escape route IMO. It is no where near as bad as it used to be regarding this, for example quite a lot of Linfields team is now Catholic dispite all the perceptions. Same can be said for more prodominately Catholic teams with Protestants in their teams.
You've completely missed what the actual problem is with a nationalist holding an Irish passport and playing for NI.

I'd rather have him play then Robinson, but I think we shouldn't rely on footballers becoming English citizens .
