How many races did you actually not finish last season though San? I refuse to believe it was only 4, as I remember seeing you smoke for a good half-season at least. Whilst it obviously works, I just don't know if it's the most enjoyable strategy?
Last season was a completely different kettle of fish.
I realised I had no chance of stying up with my initial driver and figured my best shot was to get a new driver for the last four races. Therefore i deliberately stopped upgrading all car parts (even though I could have afforded it) for a good half of the year. I had about $60m with 4 races left and spent ~$85M on upgrades

If you can downgrade for one race then upgrade back to the previous level simply saves you even more money. I know it's only just over $2mil difference between a level 6 and 7 engine - but I found one million saved here, and two million saved there soon stacks up - especially when most people are struggling come end of season. I could've quite easily competed in every race this season with money to spare if I didn't instead spend 20-odd million on new facilities and smoke the last 4 races instead...
Hang on, I presumed we were taking this into account....I've upgraded and trained every single season (this one included)

I never upgraded any other facilities apart from lvl2 pitstop and commercial until last season. After deciding to embark on a testing mission, I decided to upgrade many of my other facilities, so saved up and spent the money there instead of on my car. PLUS, I can't really promote to elite with no facilities can I?

Until you're certain that you won't be returning to rookie, I probably wouldn't spend money on any facilities whatsoever, as this would be wasted money that could've spent on trying to maintain your status instead.
Once you know you're staying in amateur or above, then most people recommend pitstop and commercial facilities first until you decide to do any testing. Personally I haven't seen any change whatsoever from having a pitstop facility, as I think it's the training level of your staff that affect pit times tbh...
