Good spot mkus!!!
Alot of the top class managers in the real world were not top class internationals.
Arsene Wenger, Jose Mourniho to name just two.
Maybe there should be two things on the adding manager page aswell as expanding it.
1) Past Experience (Same as it is now, but also with level of football played at = Conference, League 1, Premiership etc...)
2) Manager Reputation (which could be a level that you have previously managed). So for a proper LLM player, it would probably be Conference North/South for English purposes.

Skershaw
According to the game manual, page 10, under past experience, it states, "by default, the 'Automatic' choice is selected, meaning you entering the football world with no prior experience."
Therefore, I selected the lowest possible rating. As semi-professional etc "...will increase your starting reputation and potentially allow you more leeway with the board..."
Since I am playing with LLM guidelines and I am not nor ever have been a semi-pro footballer I must start as automatic.
My reputation in my current game after 4.5 seasons is National (in Brazil) so I am not exactly well rated in the game. I too was surprised that Dortmund offered me the job. But enjoying the game with my lower Brazilian team.

I've always gone with the logic that Automatic is a safe-zone as far as LLM is concerned. Someone, I think it was Nobby, said just put what you have ever been. Have you ever been an ex-International footballer? I've not, nor have I been a Semi-Pro footballer, so Automatic seems the best choice for me.
I think the Dortmund offer is more a general game-related issue rather than speicifcally one with the past experience in itself.
Just my two pence. Ah well, might aswell give the other 98p to Children in Need |

Eriksson is another example. As a player all he could reach was the Swedish Third Division (as it was then?)
It wasn't me that said that Chris, but a long standing llama did.

Brasil de pelotas game:
All seasons in div 2 with board expecting to fight against relegation.
Season 4. Finished 15th on 44 points.
Season 5 finished 14th on 44 points
season 6 finished 3rd on 66 points
Promoted to first div.
Not expecting much next season because i have not had a decent cup run in 6 seasons and everytime I've player higher division clubs i've been thrashed. The step up could be too big a gap for my little team.

I always pick sunday league footballer as that is all I have ever got to.
Sunday league footballer - play for nothing.
Semi-Pro footballer - get a wage from fooball and your day job.
Pro Footballer - get paid for playing football as your only job
ex-international - obviously played international football.
I would have thought that most people will have played football for a team on a saturday or sunday morning?
The only way I would ever put automatic down is if I had never ever played the game.

| And you'd have thought wrong. I haven't played since I was a teenager, mostly at school, and only about 2 games for a boy's club on a Saturday morning, which hardly counts as experience. |

I played in a Sunday league team once. Didn't last very long. I was in goals, and got subbed after 20 minutes - we were losing 5-0 =(

Nope not in a team myself neither, I have a kickabout on the astroturf every Wednesday but its only 5 of us having a doubles knockout with a keeper... there's no rating for that on FM so I stick with automatic until my dormant footballing skills come to the fore in my mid twenties.
