Okay I've just finished my third season in charge of Chimney Corner (Northern Irish Division 2), so it's update time.

When I took over there were perhaps four players worth keeping, a rubbish scout, but at least I started with one, and unacceptable ass man. I got myself a half-decent ass man and a couple of 40 year old player coaches to plug the void, but scout was hopeless so I had to make do with rotating the dead wood around.

Job status: respectable NI2 position required by end of two year plan.

2007/08

Season started off slowly as I struggled to "find a system that suited my players", although (annoyingly) I had some good cup runs. An end to the cup runs coincided with improved league form, dragging me clear of the relegation scrap into the minimum requirement of a respectable league position.

Media prediction: 8th/12
Board expectations: respectable league position
Final position: 8th
Best player: DMC/ Ass man

2008/09

At the start of preseason I put adverts out for scouts, and suddenly there were applicants. I picked up a few players on frees, and sold (yes, as in, got money ) a player to pay for a striker.

A rubbish preseason, poor finances and a steady but unspectacular start led to me thinking I'd be out of a job in May. Again the cups were causing problems, but this time it was low morale due to losing, rather than tiredness caused by winning. Once again a tremendous run of six wins in the last seven secured promotion, with the best defence in the league by distance.

Media prediction: 4th/12
Board requirements: Top half finish
Final position: 2nd (promoted)
Best player: Penalty taking goalkeeper
Job status: New 2 year contract, top half NI1 finish required by end of contract (eek...)

2009/10

My financial problems forced me to auction off my keeper off at the end of last season, but I got an incredibly good price for a NI2 team. Board expected me to steer clear of relegation, and to cut a long story short I escaped it by the skin of my teeth on the last day of the season. Three cup semi finals seem to have kept the fans happy enough for me not to be sacked, but I don't see this team getting into the top half next season.

Media prediction: 11th/12 (relegation)
Board expectations: Steer clear of relegation (unreasonable ****s)
Final position: 10th
Best player: Young striker

Aren't there about seven million cup competitions in Northern Ireland?
