I don't think it's lost any context, I just thought it was an odd statement: I would assume all of us strive to sign the best players we can, best staff we can, get the best facilities we can.

Speak for yourself mkus
Wes, I think that you can put efforts into training within semi-pro teams, however the rate at which th ey improve - if at all - tends to be very slow. I think it is the same with Amateur teams, yes?
However, I thought the training aspect of the game was in large part to see how rapid players would recover their top-fitness level after suffering injuries; and that the rate of ability improvement - while affected by the coaching staff- was mostly due to the players' qualities? Or do I have it all wrong?

| It's about balance though. At the start of the game some managers will look to break the bank on one or two players in required positions, others will look to get as many coaches as the board will allow, others will preserve the cash in the hope of getting a transfer budget the next season.

(I was trying to be diplomatic there, but having read through that it might be considered tipping, if so feel free to delete it)

I don't read wwhat you typed as tipping DC321. You are merely stating different approaches different managers can have towards the game, I guess.
Personally I guess that it really is up to the manager to decide how he wants to play the game. So, he can either try to get as much new players in as possible or he can try to get the best coaches possible (and as many) or something in between.
It's up to you (the manager) and after some in-game years each manager will have his preferred way to do this, I guess.

I'm not talking about quantity or order or priorities, DC321. Are you trying to tell me that there are people out there with a policy of actively signing rubbish coaches and terrible players?
Whether you are looking to sign 1 or 10 players, or 1 or 5 coaches, you are always going to try to sign the best you can.

I agree, you'd be a fool to sign someone you didn't think was better than what you had. I'm merely saying it's impossible to sign the best you can everywhere all at once.
On topic I've managed two relatively big teams in FM08 for short periods (MK Dons and Morecambe) and two LLM teams (St Albans pre beta patch, long term save is Chimney Corner). I didn't notice any difference in attribute gains between any of the clubs, but older players seem to get worse quicker. Of course, having six players over 40 may have something to do with that too...

cool guys,
thanks for the remarks,
how cool is this game? seriously, its the best yet!!
since starting this post, i have been training in a more position specific method as opposed to just general and i think i have noticed an improvement, the team is definately playing better, shots on target and energy levels especially

Amazing what some knowledge and a little effort does. I've been tinkering with training for years and it helps my players, except the overly complicated CM4 series where it was just befuddling.
