Albion Rovers Scottish Third Division 2020/21 Board Expectation: Win promotion
Fans Expectation: Win promotion
Media Prediction: 3rd
We had a good season, despite a bad start and a good run at the end of the season meant we were top on goal difference going into the final game. The teams were so close that we needed at least a draw to even be guaranteed a playoff place.
We were facing Dumbarton and were on top for almost the whole game, but failed to score. In the 88th minute Dumbarton got a goal on the break. All the other teams in contention were drawing or losing, but we still needed a draw to finish top. After bombarding the Dumbarton gooal, we scored in injury time!!!! Unfortunately it was disallowed for offside and we were condemned to the playoffs.
Ayr United were our opponents in the semi-final. In the first leg we went a goal down early, but managed to be 2-1 ahead by half-time. In the 87th minute, Ayr got an equaliser after a great amount of pressure. However, in the 92nd minute we managed to get our third goal to make it 3-2. In the second leg we, again, went a goal down and, again, went 2-1 up. This time we managed to hold on and progressed to the final.
Stranraer, the Second Division team, were the team we faced in the final. We were dominated away in the first leg, but somwhow managed to come away with a 1-1 draw. The away goals rule meant if we didn't concede, we'd go up. Stranraer had a player sent off just before half-time and we just about managed to hang on for the 90 minutes. Promotion \o/
