Firstly I'd like to say hi, I was in my youth a big fan of the cm2/cm3 series of games but lost interest around cm4, until I decided to buy fm2008. I started at Aston Villa but still didn't find the game particularly enjoyable until I stumbled upon this fine forum and read the stickies and decided perhaps this was what I needed to kick start my addiction.

I've played 3 full seasons with Tamworth in a week and still kept my social life together a fine achievement I feel.

Anyway here is my record so far.

Season 2007/2008

P:42 W:13 D:19 L:10 F:38 Ag:32 GD:+6 Pts:58
Position: 11th

The goals scored and let in tell you everything you need to know about the season, a lot of very tight games, I released a few players (putting the club into debt a lesson learnt for future games!) but I had trouble buying any until after the season started due to the fact I had no scouts, once I'd got my scouts I sent them out straight away and managed to make a couple of signings to strengthen the squad.

Season 2008/2009

Media predicting a mid-table finish and the board expecting a top half finish, me personally well I'd made some decent signings, replaced my blind scouts for a couple of half decent ones, and unsurprisingly got a couple of strikers in on loan to try and rectify the lack of goals from the previous season... the result.

P:42 W:26: D:9 L:7 F:115 A:47 GD:+71 Pts:97
Position: 3rd

Playoff Final went wrong... very very wrong 3-0 down to Hednesford Town at half time, I went all out attack only to loose 7-2. As I'm sure you can imagine I was gutted, I opened a beer, and another one, and another one (can you see where this is going?) until all of a sudden it was 1am in the morning, I strolled home, my housemate found me crawling up the stairs I made it to the landing where upon I woke ready to begin rebuilding. For the record I got a striker in on loan in the second half of the season who set the league alight if I'd had him all season I'd of won the league.

Season 2009/2010

Media 10-1 odds of promotion I wasn't even in the top 5 of their list of promotion candidates, the board expecting promotion, despite having no transfer budget for the last two seasons. My star loan striker had gone back to his club and been promoted to there main squad he would no longer join my little club. I got in two new wingers, a keeper, a defensive midfielder and a striker. How did it finish?

P:42 W:30 D:4 L:8 F:102 Ag:54 GD:+48 Pts:94
Pos: 1st

I got off to a fairly average start good home form poor away form, I changed my tactics slightly and started digging out the results going on an 11 game winning streak upto Christmas put me joint first. January and February I had a nightmare as my Left back got injured, both my first choice strikers, my right winger and the defensive midfield position became jinxed as my 1st 2nd and 3rd choice players all picked up long injuries, I was struggling to get results and for 1 week dropped down too 2nd, fortunately my scouts had a decent list of players for me to go through and I picked up a couple of transfers and a loan player and as my injured players returned I was stronger than ever winning the league with a game to spare, the joy the relief was amazing, I'm off the see some fireworks to celebrate tonight.

What have I learnt, well fm2008 is amazingly addictive as much so as the older games I used to love so much and I have llm to thank for it!!! This truly is the best way to play the game, I thought I'd miss the huge transfer budgets and signing the big names but I don't, it's much more enjoyable signing some unknown your scouts have recommended and see him turn into a star player.

Sorry for the long post but it's my first attempt at following the traditions of the LLM and I look forward to taking Tamworth as high as I can!!!

Great update!
just out of curiosity, could you list the leagues you are playing in? I am guessing Tamworth is in one of those conference divisions?

Had a job offer from them myself but felt a bit sheepish at taking it.

Sancho - Conference North they be.

That's a lot of goals! Did you break any records with that?

Well done on the DMing, managing to not get promoted with 97 points is a supreme effort that must be applauded.

KUTGW.

This is exactly why I play LLM too. So much more satisfying when you get it right, it feels like you've earned it.

Welcome aboard, congrats on the promotion and KUTGW!
