Just to clarify something... are your scouts the only method by which you can bring in players, or are you allowed to search for players yourself?
I'm playing Harrogate at the moment, after not getting my contract renewed at Telford (despite keeping them up), and I'm doing quite well after getting some players in that I (not my scouts) found, either as a free transfer or a loan signing.
Sadly, I'm a feeder club for Bradford who have loaned me a winger, so it's not a pure LLM game. My next one will be, though.
Trials...OK, not tried that yet... might not get all those comments about "The fans think that your recent purchase, Fred Bloggs, couldn't hit a cows backside with a banjo and you're a plank for signing him" type of comment...
If you're not playing a pure LLM game, why bother asking the question?
However, there are other methods of finding players which are deemed acceptable, although using the player search function definitely isn't one of them.
That being said, if you did use other methods of identifying good players (such as the news function), you would still be expected to scout the player before signing them.
