It's better to win ugly Vanløse playing attractive football.
I decide to start in the Danish Second Division with an amateur side. I chose them because they are the first club of 2 legendary Danish stars (one who played for Real Madrid with a brother who was at Rangers and the other a Scudetto winner with Verona).
Board Expectations - avoid relegation
I register a squad of 18 given that my youth players are fairly carp. Of the 18 a couple can move on once replacements come in as they are not good enough. I can't add new players as we have no scouting staff but we do look fairly strong upfront with a pair of decent strikers. Also I like the look of both keeper and his back up.
I am able to add a keeper and attacking midfielder on loan but neither are really good enough. The former sits on the bench and the latter is retuned 2 months later.
Early form is ok with a 7-0 win against non-leaguers in the cup delighting my board, though defeat against more minnows in the next round is a blow. We then lose 6 in a row. We scrape away wins and draws against some of the bigger teams but continue to lose at home to carp mid-table sides.
I can't find any players so I improve my coaching team with a new ass man and a coupe of coaches. Only transfer business is an attacking mid in at Xmas on a future percentage deal.
The second half of the season begins with 2 excellent single goal victories away at bigger teams and we start to get a little momentum with a run of 5 unbeaten until we crash to another carp team at home. We continue to play well putting a couple more runs of 3 unbeaten together culminating with a 4-0 away win in the penultimate game of the season. We managed to secure 8th spot (just inside the top half) and the board are delighted...partly because of how rich the club is having spent nothing in my time.
Final League Position - 8th out of 16
Cups - third round defeat to non-leaguers
Top Scorer - ageing inconsistent striker with 15
Player of the Season - agressive striker who scored 10 goals

I lost one reserve defender on a free transfer at the end of the season. However I strengthened my defence (which consisted of 4 players in the whole squad) by adding a quality 20 year old right back and loaning a 17 year old centre back for depth.
I also added a 21 year old striker with the potential to be better than any of my current crop of forwards and loaned a 17 year old striker who my ass man thinks has almost as much potential though my scouts are marginally less favourable about. Still at least there is a decent squad now.
As for the future I poached a 16 year old centre half for the future from a local rival's youth set-up that my scout loved and it only cost me a future percentage. Another 16 year old centre half also joined from a non-league out-fit, which delighted my fans. This in addition with a decent goalkeeping prospect the club has means that now my youth team has players that are not total carp.
The season starts as the last one finished with wins away and defeats at home interspersed with a cup victory against non-leaguers. The reward is a home tie against AC Horsens of the Premier League which will add to the clubs coffers. Sadly we slipped to a narrow 2-0 defeat and then lost 2 league games. A couple more average performances led up to a 5-0 away win at one of the high fliers. This proved to be the start of a golden run of 6 wins, ending only with a poor defensive display away at one of the also rans. At the halfway point we were 4th by a couple of point from second place, however the runaway leaders will not be allowed to go up so promotion is a possibility!
Losing my top scoring striker and free scoring midfielder on a Bosman at the end of the season meant the Xmas break was miserable and was made worse by a loss in the first game after to our biggest rivals (who subsequently went on a fantastic run). However a short run of victories helped keep us in touch until it disappointingly ended against our other big rivals. However another excellent run of half a dozen unbeaten put us right in a pack of clubs hunting the remaining play off place. Our late season form was fairly good with only one loss and as a result we secured a play-off spot against Braband (who we beat home and away last year!)
The first leg is away and we have a slightly injury ravaged side and I play one of my young players on the wrong side. He has a first half hat-trick and created 2 more as we hit 6 in the first half. He eventually makes it 4 for the night as we win 8-0 in easily the best performance I have seen. Suddenly I no longer care about the strikers who are leaving on free transfers or even the return leg. I was so pleased i nearly cried! The home leg is a more sedate affair as we come from behind to win 2-1 making it 10-1 on aggregate and first division football next season.
Final League Position - 4th out of 16
Cups - third round defeat to big club.
Top Scorer - beanpole striker with 20
Player of the Season - aging inconsistent striker

A decimated squad left me with real work to do. I lost on free transfers...
My goalkeeper (vice-captain)
My best young centre-back
My aggressive striker who was p.o.t.s. 2 years ago
My top-scoring beanpole striker
My most skillful midfielder
plus several squad players. No permanent replacements were brought in leaving me with a handful of loaned teenagers and 12 actual contracted first teamers. However the board decided to abandon its amateur status and allow me to offer part time contracts. Pre-season is as carp as you can get and I was glad it was over.
We lost the first 8 gams of the season and looked woeful even when getting to the 3rd round of the cup where we got a real battering. We finally managed to win in the league at the 10th attempt and amazingly were only 2 points from safety. Sadly we lost against a major rival after being 1 up and missing a penalty.
At Christmas I jettisoned two of the loanees who couldn't cut it and brought in 2 more who could. The odd point here and there kept us mathematically alive when after a little run unbeaten of 3 we were only 4 points of safety. However we promptly lost to the team 4 points above us and then again in a particuarly spineless performance which left us all but down with 4 games left. A visit to promotion chasing OB was just what was needed next!
Defeat led to relegation followed by a couple more defeats to round off the campaign. Only 3 wins all season told it's own story though my board still offered me a new contract. Now to go and build a new promotion winning side.
Final League Position - 15th out of 16 RELEGATION
Cups - third round defeat to big club.
Top Scorer - youthful playoff hero with 16
Player of the Season - youthful playoff hero.

Nice update. Playing a Danish amateur side myself at the moment and thoroughly enjoying it despite some annoyances with the amateur status (how do you mean, I brought in 30k from transfers and I can't spend a single penny if my life depended on it?) And despite money in the bank, boards don't seem to be keen to move on to semi pro status.
I'll be following this update with interest.
KUTGW!

Mine only updated to semi-pro after promotion but it worked ok for them as we sold many more season tickets and profits were much increased. Mind you I still have never had a single penny to spend despite making big profits. The board told em they were able to draw big dividends and yet me...I still stay on my pitiful wage
