Money makes the world go round -- how do I push???
I am brand new to FM. I've played FIFA since '98 and have wished for a better managerial experience. Tried CM '06 or '05 can't recall which one but stopped after like 3 straight trouncings. Finally bought FM '08 and am trying to make Sutton United into a world power. However, 20 games into my first season I've realised that my club isn't viable. We average about 600 persons per game. I think I can get the average up to about 700-800 this season. However, at the rate my club is losing money, I expect I'd need 1300-1400 persons a game to break even. I can't sell any of my players b/c no one wants to buy them, given that the equivalent rubbish is floating around as free agents. My board seem to have the financial acumen of my girlfriend - i.e. none. So how can I make money? How do I accumulate the cash I'll need for an assualt on the BSP and higher?
One other thing. When I signed for the club the balance was about 30K and so I choose to offer my squad low collective win bonuses. Three and a half months later more than half of my first team are still upset about it and have it as a PR. Their morale is shot for seemingly no other reason, despite great performance (3rd, 3 points behind the leaders) and the fans being happy with them and me, and my praising them for their good performances. If I have to pay these sods higher collective win bonuses, my team will be bankrupt!!!!

Just ask yourself one question: if every club is able to compete for the championship so easily, why don't they all just do it?
FM aims to offer a realistic gaming experience. Realism - unfortunately for some people - means, that it's normal if you can't have success everywhere.
Especially here, in the LLM forum, this constant struggle, which you are experiencing right now, is felt as the joy and challenge we all strive for.

And think about how many real life teams sacrifice financial prudence to attempt promotion. Practically all blue square premier sides do (but not Altrincham: Part-time and proud of it!)

Of course your squad will be upset about the small treasure chest at the end of the rainbow... In reality, would you like to be told that you kill yourself to win the championship, but not receive compensation for it?
And as Cosmo said, the struggling part is the salt and pepper in this little corner of FM. Twisted as it sounds.

Just wait till you venture out into other countries. I thought it was bad in England. I'm currently in the lower reaches of Brazil. With a £0 transfer and wage budget and leaking money faster than an Abromovich divorce.

Argentina aint much better than Brazil, I proudly accept some blame for that as I shouted loud and long about there being unrealistic ammounts of money in the South American game.
It's certainly realistic now

For every push, you need to pull back... If you get inspired by an oscillating pendulum, you will make a lot of money.
Yes, Argentina has certainly fixed the money issue, I think the same happened in Portugal and Italian LLs, most teams tend to have flimsy financial situations (i.e. no stability).
