Hi, Always pop in here and have a look at the threads every now and then as there are some good ones in here.
I started thinking that maybe it's time I gave it a shot. I mostly hang around the Challenges/Sign up Forum as I run mostly sign ups and the odd challenge every now and then.
My main question, as listed in the title, is if there is any benefit to starting unemployed and then hopefully getting taken on by one of the Conference North/South clubs? Has anyone else started this way and how long did it take them to get a club?
Thanks for any response received. My 3 year update might take a while as I don't tend to play for that long that often.
As you no doubt know LLM's about realism (as far as the game...blah, blah...). Some will argue it's realistic to start unemployed, some will argue equally strongly that a Club wouldn't hire a complete unknown.
Bottom line, do as you wish, "benefit" is subjective.
Thanks for the reply. I suppose there isn't any real benefit as to whether you start as unemployed or not. I just went for the randomiser in the end. Starting my LLM life now.
hey there n good luck with your career
as for me i started unemployed in fm 06, fm07 and i did the same with fm08.
my target was and still is to be hired by ac milan.
in fm06, i started in the brazilian second division. hired by marilia and loved the club, the potential ability of the players to become stars, loved the brazilian league, cup and championships, so i stayed there for a long time.
in fm07, i realized that in order to do be hired by ac milan i had to built up my own name and reputation. for more gameplay time, i started in december 2005 in brazil.
hired by ceara, promoted them to first division and received best manager of the year. first division was very tough, got to fourth place and received second best manager. got hired by sao paulo and won the copa libertadores. but sao paulo is a very big team and one of the strongest, i wanted a challenege. received a job from creteil lusitanos second division french club with no money, battling thro' i secured them a good (perhaps 5th or 6th) in the first season, and first in the second (best manager of the year).
later i received a contract from torino italian seria B, amazing club with good players; promoted them and secured their place in the first division.
then came fiorentina, a club that i love and enjoyed the italian league and the italian cup with them.
and finally, milan offered me a job! perhaps in 8 or 9 years from the start of my career, but remember i had a good profile.
so yes, it is possible to reach your target.
right now am in the brazilian second league once more managing Paulista FC. currently competiting with sao paulo for the state championship.
the benefits? well it depends on how you look at it, for me enjoying the different leagues each with its unique aspect was a joy itself.

The Spawn is as un-LLM as you can get.
Still, you seem like a reasonable bloke, and I'm sure you won't use the Spawn now.
Welcome, Bamb.
No, my sign up doesn't involve the editor. Mine is a spin-off from the OOTP Baseball style where everyone gets a team and runs them through me, no spawn involved!!
I also ran a challenge for the Home Nations which involved starting at lower league level in any of the Home Countries plus Repulic of Ireland so have a bit of experience at lower league. However, going to play it the way it's meant to be and only use scouts and shun the use of a parent club.
