AMOT??? Is that a Football team or something you put your car through? (Norway LLM)
Leagues loaded – England, Scotland, Portugal, Spain, Italy, Argentina, Bulgaria, France, Norway and Large Database, playing to LLM rules.
3 seasons have now been completed so I can update on the forum.
I was tempted by another player to play a game in Norway. There is the Top Division in Norway, then the First Division, and then four Second Divisions, with only the top team in the Second Divisions gaining promotion. As I didn’t know which of the four divisions to go into, I asked Frank for a team in all four of them. Then these names were placed into a hat and the team that came out was AMOT IF.
I was given the choice of starting in Norway in February 2007 or February 2008, I opted for February 2008, as I don’t like playing in the past.
After a quick check on them, they have never been in this division before, a capacity of 1,500.
About 150k in the bank.
We were in the Second Division 4, every one of the four second divisions has 14 teams and you play each other twice, each of the divisions also has 2 teams which are the Reserves from teams in the top division. These teams can’t get promoted, the two teams in my league are Rosenborg B and Tromso B

Media Prediction 9th out of 14.
Long-Term Board Expectations – Establish ourselves in this division by the end of 2009.
Initial Board Expectations – Avoid Relegation, but I choose Mid Table Finish.
Finished 5th – 42 points from 26 games
Norway Cup – 2nd Round defeat to eventual winners. (Near Capacity crowd of 1,450).
Average Attendance - 262
Club Finances - +£125,000 (Lost £25,000 over the season)
Top Player – Centre Forward with 22 goals.
Transfer Budget – £20k Wage Budget – £1k
Players In - 12 (£2k) Players Out – 3 (£0k)
Word to sum up season – INCONSISTENT
Positives from season - Free Scoring Strikers
Negatives from season – Free Conceding Defence
Well what a baptism of fire, I see the wage budget of £1k, and realise that between myself and the assistant we are taking up £800 of it. There is no way I can stay within this stupid budget and so I decide that I will increase the budget and not spend the transfer budget ( even though the board wouldn’t let me adjust) I decided to make sure that I stayed in the Black financially.
Got in two scouts, and they came up with some very good players.
Completely inconsistent in the league, winning some games, losing others. Never really looked anything else but mid table until a run of 5 wins on the trot near the end which took us up to 5th.
Rosenborg B won the league, so 2nd place team won promotion.
Matches involving us were great entertainment for the crowd, 66 goals scored and 52 goals conceded in 26 games. (4.5 per match).
Board expected us to get to the 2nd round of the cup which we duly obliged.
Board offered me a new two year contract (one year early) which I accepted.
Overall a very enjoyable first season, hopefully we can kick onwards and upwards.

Media Prediction 7th out of 14.
Long-Term Board Expectations – Establish ourselves in this division by the end of 2009.
Initial Board Expectations – Mid Table finish, I decide to go for top half finish.
Finished 2nd – PROMOTION!!!!!! 60 Points from 26 games.
Norway Cup – 1st Round exit (CUPS SUCK!!!!!)
Average Attendance - 292
Club Finances - +£10,000(Lost £115,000 over the season)
Top Player – Centre Forward with 27 goals.
Transfer Budget – £0k Wage Budget – £3.8k
Players In - 4 (£0k) Players Out – 6 (£0k)
Word to sum up season – CONSISTENT
Positives from season - Free Scoring Strikers, Goalkeeper who actually saved the ball!!!!
Negatives from season – Bad Cup Exit
Well what a start, we started the season off with 11 wins on the trot, and by half way in the season, we were 4 points clear of Rosenborg B (who couldn’t go up) and 12 points clear of 3rd.
The second half of the season wasn’t as good, but we still picked up more points than any other team apart from Rosenborg B, who finished the season 6 points clear of us, although we were 15 points clear of 3rd, and clinched promotion with 4 games of the season still to go.
My strikeforce scored 49 league goals between them, and finally the defence and goalkeeper learnt how to get there clean sheet bonus.
We need to get more people through the turnstyles, and hopefully being in the first division may get them out in force.
Cups sucked arse for me this season, but I think it probably helped me in the long term.
Financially we are ok, I never went close to the Wage Budget all year, but we are still losing loads of money, hopefully the higher division will mean more revenue.
The long term expectations of the board have not been met, they have been smashed into millions of pieces.
Absolutely delighted with the season, I hope that we can hold our own in the higher division.

Media Prediction – 16th (Bottom)
Long-Term Board Expectations – Establish ourselves in second division by the end of the year.
Initial Board Expectations – Fight Bravely against Relegation, I choose Avoid Relegation.
Finished - 12th (one place above the relegation zone) 32 points from 30 games
Norway Cup – 2nd round defeat to eventual winners ( for the 2nd time in 3 seasons)
Average Attendance - 1302
Club Finances - -£1.5 million (loss of 1.5 million over the season – explained below)
Top Player – Striker scoring 20 goals.
Transfer Budget – £0k Wage Budget – £4.8k
Players In - 10 (£0k) Players Out – 15 (£0k)
Word to sum up season – ROLLERCOASTER
Positives from season - Staying up.
Negatives from season – Star striker breaks his leg two weeks before the season starts and only gets back for final 3 games of season. Star on-loan striker breaks his leg 8 games into the season.
Any first team player who wasn’t a regular in my team last season didn’t get their contract renewed, so it left me with a first team of about 15 players, I set about attracting a group of loan players with the intention that if the worst did happen and we were relegated I wouldn’t have a bunch of players on big contracts weighing me down financially the following year.
The season was still 3 months away when the board dropped the bombshell, that because to be in our new division, it had to have a minimum capacity, which meant that the board agreed to build a new 3,000 seater stand to increase our capacity to 4,500. This was due to be completed by October 2010. One day before our final home game!!!! In the meantime our first ever season at this level in Norway we would be playing all our home games at another stadium in Norway, a non league ground, but with a capacity of 8,500.
I wasn’t to bothered by this, although we are really giving home advantage away, we must be ambitious, and I was happy that in the end we would have a bigger stadium.
I was however extremely unhappy, when I looked at the finances, and saw that this 3,000 seater stand had cost the club £4.6 million.
With no money in the bank, it had put us £4.6 million in the red, and suddenly the board were unhappy about my financial management!!!! Financial Management my arse, I wasn’t going to take any bull from no-one, I knew it wasn’t my fault, and more importantly so did the players and fans.
I just hoped that this whole mess didn’t put us into administration, as I think we’re going to struggle anyway without getting points deducted aswell.
The board seemed happy for us to get relegated in our pre-season board meeting, I said that there was no way I was settling for that, and that I wouldn’t be happy unless we avoided relegation.
Over the course of the season the board injected just under £3 million to help with running costs, this helped reduce the debt from 4.6 to 1.5 million.
Interestingly enough over the course of the season if you take away the ground development and the cash injections from the accounts, we actually made about £100,000 from the season, which is great, I managed to stay at least £500 a week under budget all season.
Well the season was well and truly split into 4 parts, interestingly enough the first 6 games of the season were against teams that ended up the season in the bottom 7 along with me, with the next 9 games against the top 9, and this repeated itself in the second half of the season.
First 6 games (Rubbish opposition) 4 wins and 2 draws – 14 points from 18.
Next 9 games (Good opposition) 1 win, 1 draw and 7 losses – 4 points from 27.
Next 6 games (Rubbish opposition) 4 wins, 1 draw and 1 loss – 13 points from 18.
Last 9 games (Good opposition) 1 draw and 8 losses – 1 point from 27.
So we finished just one point and one place of relegation, but I was absolutely delighted.
My contract was up at the end of this season, and I was after a new one, the board said they would talk to me as soon as the season was over.
Interestingly enough I had two job offers from teams that would be in my division next season, but I decided I would stay with AMOT, the board did agree a new two year contract with me to run to Dec 2012, although no wage increase is annoying, also the fact that they want the team properly established in this division by the end of the two year plan means I’ve got a lot of work to do.
Anyway onwards and upwards, lets see what season four brings.
Interesting point that I have noticed so far, is that in all 4 completed European campaigns, no team from Norway has got to the Champions League Group stage or the First Round of the UEFA Cup, the coeficants of the country have gone down the pan and they are now about 30th in the rankings.
On a plus note, after disappointing campaigns for Euro 2008 and the World Cup 2010, and seeing there ranking drop to 40th in the world, Norway are top of there qualifying group for Euro 2012, with 5 wins and a draw in there opening six matches.
Not a bad achievement considering, Holland, Czech Republic and Russia are in the group with them. And in the 3 months since they were 40th in the world, they have moved up 24 places to 16th.

Yes Seve, the step up from 2nd division to 1st division is very large.
I was just sweating as I saw a team 10 points behind me with 6 games to go, slowly catch me up to bring the gap to 1 point with two games left, thankfully they played two difficult teams like I did, so we both lost them and I was very happy.
