Default Player Manager - LLM

What would other LLaMa's think of a facility to be a player / manager in FM2009?

As you'll know a lot of lower league clubs have player bosses with young managers being given a chance to prove their managerial worth lower down the pyramid.

I am sure it would be easy enough for SI to implement. I guess it would work along the lines of selecting a player / manager option and then an editing system like the one in the editor where you select your position, abilities and so on.

This could be totally abused with people putting themselves in as all 20's but then the editor provides this facility anyway.

I quite like the idea of seeing myself playing for a LLM club for a season or two then clicking on the resign from playing button when I am past it and no longer needed in the squad. You could get an option each year to retain your registration in case of emergencies too.

As the most realistic management simulation out there I would have thought this would already have been implemented. I can see a lot of people being against this but as strive for realism is it not realistic to now offer such a feature? What do people think?

You'd be on a salary, you'd have a playing contract and would renew it or retire like in real life. You'd also have form like any other players. What are the pro's and con's and could it work?

I'm having a hard enough time being a manager in FM08 at the moment & giving the fans two reason to complain about me is just sadistic.

I'd love the glitch that would tell you that the fans thought you should be dropped while phrasing it so you sounded like a different person.

For me it'd add a nice option. You are playing badly but you know your own abilities so can you perform on the pitch too? Maybe if you continued to be poor but picked yourself it'd lead to poor morale and so on.

Since this is the LLM-forum: How would this contribute to the realism we (LLaMa's) strive for?

Because a number of clubs in the BSN and BSS have player managers with older players often doubling up as coaches and some going on to take the job when the boss leaves.

Isn't the new Worcester manager one such bloke?

Therefore if a number of LLM clubs have a player manager should this not be considered a possibility for those that want to use it in future games?

After all FM is striving to be as realistic as possible.

Not every club in the land has a manager in the dugout. Some are on the field too.

This applies to Llama's more than anyone.

... there are plenty about and I am just saying if this is implemented in the future which I would expect then is this something we LLaMa's would use?

I can't see anyone employing me as a 53 year old player/manager.

I personally think this is an aweful idea.

Bad, bad, bad idea.

As far as realism goes, how in the hell would we have a 47 year old ex-amateur playing for and managing Eastleigh?

As Church said, Aw(e)ful

I think it'd be a bad thing for the same reason that giving human managers coaching stats would be a bad thing. Your tactical prowess (or in most of our cases, lack of) has absolutely no impact on, say, your fitness coaching. Or how well you can kick a football, or how fast you can run 100m.

Well, I would be the 29-year old manager of the infamous Ribeira Brava just recovering from the surgery done on his cruciate ligaments.

I could send myself to the reserves to get match-fit.

Which I would probably never get...

The more I think about it, the more I think it really is a bad idea.

That's a bit harsh is'nt it Church?

I agree with Jenninga. it would be good idea and there are quite a few player/managers in the lower divisions.

I remember one who used to be at Scottish Division 2 outfit Peterhead. He only ever used to play if the squad was decimated by injuries and was badly in need of a striker if I remember right.
