The game is called football manager. If you want to act as a player/manager, I believe that there is or was a game series that featured exactly on that.

There is not a single thing this feature would add. For the same reason, you can't do the stadium upgrades yourself, simulate your private life (play the Sims instead!) or drive a car to work and home in the game.

Like it was mentioned a lot of times before - the game does not intend to simulate all aspects and possibilities of the real world. Players don't get shot in Colombia, there is no matchfixing (would you really like that included?), you don't have players get banned for lifetime for drug abuse.

Would you really enjoy it, if you would win a European cup final and have it taken away for you because the game decided that one of your fans had thrown a grenade into the other fan block? Or maybe another Heysel tragedy?

It's a game. And LLM is about playing the game in a realistic fashion that the game allows. There are dozens of things where the programming and designing work would be better put in.

We could also add that 99.99% of us do not have the required knowledge, skills or qualifications to manage a club any higher than local/county leagues.

As I've already stated I'm not in favour of the idea however I can see the logic behind it, having a believable & realistic playing history is another matter entirely. </BLOCKQUOTE>

I agree totally with you Barside, 99.9% of us aren't good enough to manage a club, but this is Football Manager, and so we play it to manage not to play it.

If people want to play it they should play PRO EVO or some other arcade game.

Let's assume, just for the sake of the argument, that SI went nuts and implemented this.

What exactly would then determine your playing ability?

How big and loud would be the outcries when users saw that their pity playing avatar made a mistake that costed them a match?

How long until people started to demand the ability to play the match and not be controlled by the AI ingame? That would also be realistic, wouldn't it?

I'll stop before I go over the top.

Isn't that the key?

I've played in the Ryman League for AFC Sudbury. They are technically two promotions away from the Blue Square South. But while we have all never played at this level we also haven't managed there either.

So it's no more realistic having us run out for the side as it is managing them in the first place.

The Lewes board are not going to appoint someone from the Dog and Duck. It'll be someone who has played at some level, albeit Ryman League or Unibond League.

So if we are allowing ourselves to 'be' such a person that a board would appoint it is pheasable we'd have a playing history as well, and if we were under 40 then potentially may still be able to cut it at the same level.

That's my point. I never said I was totally for it.

I just felt it could have a place for some people and wondered what the view was.

From the zealots it's an almost total no, then. Only Alex is wavering.

I used to love the Player Manager games when I was younger but I dont see how it would work in this game,

Like someone says, what would determine ability? And if you could control the player it would only be a matter of time before you got so good at controlling that player that the actual management side wouldnt matter one iota

Even if it were a good idea, I don't see how the game would function with the user multitasking like that. Plus as someone else said, it isn't realistic (we are already stretching it by putting us in charge of teams!).

So I am joining the bandwagon, it is a bad idea from every front.

I hate the idea of Football Manager becoming a first person shoot'em up.

If someone wants to play as a player...get FIFA 08.

Thankfully SI will never implement this.

No fence sitting here sir, I'm against the idea I just said that there is some initial logic to the idea however bad it is.

I'd never condone controlling the player Pro Evo style. That is stupid!

Ok ... so it's agreed that it's an awful idea. I thought that would be the general view.
