Note: I am playing with FM 07
Season 1: 2006/2007
Predicted to finish in the top half of the table I was satisfied with my first season in charge. The season started nicely with a run in 1st place for 2 months. The injuries that hit me were too much for me to hold on to 1st place. My team held together well though. By January we were still in playoff contention and most of my players were healthy again.
I made a strong push for first place. We played very well the second half of the season. I wanted nothing less than 1st because I do not trust myself in the playoff stages. I have had a bad playoff record in previous games. At the end of the season I finished 5 points off of (Hinckley who took) 1st place and I was set for the playoffs. The only problem was that my best striker was injured. The team fought hard but was not good enough to even win the semi-finals.
Season 2: 2007/2008
With decent results last year and a little improving on the squad this year should equal promotion…
That would summarize this season exactly! I could definitely see an improvement from last year. We moved into 1st place in October and never lost it. We were 8 points clear at the end. Automatic promotion!!! The difference was squad depth. This year the team was able to handle the inevitable injuries that came about 2 months into the season.
In case you were wondering, I did absolutely nothing in the either of the cups for the second year in a row.
At the end of the season, my relative success in the Conference North must have spread south. Weymouth, who had been struggling to survive in the Conference for the last 2 seasons had finally had enough of their manager and offered the job to me! As Weymouth also happens to be my real life favorite non-league team, I couldn't refuse. Fortunately, they barely avoided relegation so I didn't have to promote from the regional conference again.
Season 3: 2008/2009
The Weymouth Dream begins!
I started off well winning 3 out of my first 4 games. I was a little surprised at how well I was doing given the way they had been struggling the last couple of years. Injuries predictably hindered over ambitious thoughts of the playoffs. Ending the season in 8th place was a dramatic improvement from the previous season’s 20th place finish, so I was understandably pleased with my first season with Weymouth.
The biggest highlight of the season was my FA Trophy run. I had fairly easy draws up until the quarterfinals. The most memorable game of all season was the FA Trophy Final against Conference winners Dag & Red (who had beaten me twice this season). I managed a 1-1 draw in Full Time and won 4-3 on penalties!
