it depends on other players who play mids...
also mentality...

i am using AC Milan and pirlo is my DM and playmaker, i have 2 other CM to cover me so i set my DM to normal mentallity, normal creative freedom, mixed closing down, long shot mixed, through balls often, cross ball mixed. Cross from deep and tight marking. He performed well for me. Intercept passes in midfield to prevent attacks from opposition and also made wonderful assists on the counter.
