A lot of people are after the ‘killer’ tactic, or uploading what they believe is a ‘killer’ tactic. I’ve no problem with these people as it can help others who struggle with the tactic side of things, but lets face it most tactics don't work for their team!
Remember the days where you DL a tactic, a training schedule, a shortlist etc the go on holiday come back and you’ve won the treble lol. SI have reviewed their tactics and improved the AI so much that the ‘killer’ tactic is now diseased!
To succeed at this game I now watch my games like a hawk and follow the basic rules that I’ve picked up from playing and from these forums. I now follow a basic formation, stick with it (I believe changing a formation has a far more negative effect and your team than just moving say the DL/CF slider etc) then micro manage my team during a game, and try and counter what ever tactics the opposion plays. This seems to be the only method, for me, that works with FM08.
I know this has been covered before, and some people hate to have to micro-manage their team, but I believe SI are heading in the right direction with this.
For me now it’s about Match Day, transfers, training etc are a necessity but I personally would rather spend 75% of my playing time actually managing my team against another team. It’s now far more enjoyable. Even getting beat doesn’t hurt so much when I know I’ve used all my experience in trying to counter my opposition.
I manage Derby County (my home team), the weakest team in the prem and I currently sit in 4th place, 24 games into my first season with a mediocre team.
Still early days I know but following these basic rules I’ve had my best start ever, playing decent football and getting the best I can out of my team, won nothing yet (Carling Cup Semi’s) but heading in the right direction.

So to the players looking to DL a tactic and win all don’t bother. Read these forums; make your own tactic and micro manage your way to victory!!
