Tactics & Training Tips

It's no use having a squad full of star players without a decent way for them to play their football.

Default playmakers

Do you think it makes a big difference having a list of playmakers (regardless of whether you tick the box or not) or do you leave the list blank?

I tried using a playmaker (van der Vaart at HSV), but found that the other players will want to pass the ball to him even when it's not practical to do so, meaning I lost the ball a lot.

Unless you have a player who is especially outstanding, I don't think it's worth it.

I actually tried that (with the option ticked) for one match. My players would pass and pass around forever, it was amusing!

As for the "unticked" version... I think the list does make a difference even if the option is not ticked, just not as much as when you tick it. This is especially obvious if you experiment with having a few target men.

I've started using a playmaker in the BLue Square South in my second season.

Won 4 and drew against the leaders since adopting a playmaker.

I have 2 MC's (not AMC & DMC) but I have one MC in a more attacking role (just above centre on attacking slider) and one slightly more defensive (just below centre).

I am playing my more creative midfielder (set as playmaker) in the slighly withdrawn role (makes sense to me!) but the more attacking on is making all the key passes.

Anyone have any preferences where your playmaker plays?

Interesting. This seems to be a fairly common thing. The withdrawn MC makes the first play as the playmaker and the attacking MC makes that last great pass. I may try this more. I usually expect the attacking MC to be the playmaker, but he is going to try to make plays anyway. Maybe it is better to have the MCd setting the tone. I do notice that MCd's or DMC's often have "dictates tempo." So, you might have something here to build on.
