hello, new to these boards and got some questions

as far as photoshop skills, i only know how to use what evers in the filter, and layering

i dont really know how to crop stuff either

was wondering how do i do transparent layering ?
and also how to do the text all cg like ? thanks in advance

some how its not letting my attach my files...

Hi deadfishy00. Welcome to the forums.

You can either use the Crop Tool (third down on the left hand side of the tool box) or use the Rectangular Marquee Tool (top left) followed by Image > Crop. Good descriptions can be found in your Photoshop Help... Look in the index for Crop Tool and Cropping Images.

Um, that one is a little vague. For example the background layer won't support transparency but double clicking on it in the layers palette will enable you to rename it and it then becomes a layer which will support transparency. It you click the "Create a new layer" icon at the bottom of the Layers palette (next to the Trash Can icon) it will create a new layer which is completely transparent. There is quite a bit of information about the subject in Photoshop Help... under "transparency." If you have a specific question we can help.

Sorry, I don't understand that one.

Most likely your files don't fall within the acceptable sizes allowed. In the part of the "Post a reply" or "Post a new topic" window which says "Add an Attachment" there is a link to the information regarding file types and sizes. Click on "Allowed Extensions and Sizes" and you most likely can figure out why you are having difficulty.

ahh thanks for the info welles!

as for the text thing, i was asking how to make text become 3d like special grpahicsy ? <-- not good at explaining, becase i can only edit the text by using the filter tools. by any chance are they just fonts that you can get?

Which version of Photoshop are you using? If it is PS7 or CS there is a feature called Styles which can add effects to type very easily. Type something on a layer and then click on one of the Style presets found in the Styles palette. Styles can be found all over the internet and by double clicking on a layer (not the name) in the Layers palette you will bring up the Layer Styles dialog which will give access to all sorts of effects. Here's a link to a good collection of freebie Styles. I've linked the first set but personally like set #7 the best.

I would follow what Welles said. Layer styles can be your best friend for spicing up your text layers. Also, go to the main page (link below), to find the tutorials that Welles mentioned!!

And there are size restrictions related to uploading picture to this site. In the add attachment area, click on the Allowed Extensions and Sizes in the upper left-hand corner of that area. It will let you know dimensions and file sizes allowed. [righton]
