Hi, I've known of this great forum for a while but have just joined today. I just purchased PS CS and the classroom in a book for PS-CS. I figured with the book, I would not have to ask for much help but I'm in trouble already! lol, On page 12 of the book, the illustration shows the PS work area: A- menu bar, B-tool options bar, C- toolbox, D- file browser button and E- palette well, also F- palettes. However on my screen, everything except "D and E" are there! In the first lesson in the book, I'm supposed to use the "File browser button" I'm already stumped! Does anyone know how to get this button to show? and the "palette well" too?

Hi Brent, welcome to the community. Glad you decided to join us. [excited]

Take a look at the image i've attached. This is what the default window setup is for PS CS. You'll notice that the file browser button and the palette well are on the extreme right end of the Options Bar.

Those cannot be moved or turned on/off. So if you don't have them, then something serious is worng with your install. I'd probably do a re-install if i were you.

Let me know if this changes anything.

Welcome to PsG! the minimal screen size for Photoshop is 1024 x 768... are you suing that resolution?
if not, that's normal that you do not see all the icons!

Thanks Keeper and sPECtre,
I changed my screen settings to 1024 X 768 and now everything is showing. It has been set to 800 X 600 for years and I'm used to all of my programs in that size, I don't mind the difference but I have 3 websites, one alone has 370 pages and several hundred images.All 3 sites are all laid out at 800 X 600 and so everything looks smaller now, When I work on them, I may have to change my settings every time I go from PS to the website programs or is there a way to change PS to 800 X 600? I wouldn't mind having my sites layed out to 1024 X 768 but I have so much text and so many images, I would have to find over a thousand images and resize all of them, it could take months of work to do it! Is there possibly an easier way to solve this issue? If not, switching screen resolution between programs may be what I have to do.
Even this forum page seems too small to fit the window now, at 600 X 800 it fit perfectly! Is this normal for these setting?

Also, I did successfully activate PS on the first install but now that I've reinstalled it, I keep getting the window telling me I need to activate again! When I try to, it tells me "activation denied" Is this because its still activated? If so, how can I stop the activation window stop loading? It says I have 29 days left to activate.

What you're seeing now der krafter is normal.
I wouldn't be concerned about resizing your images because the mojority of surfers are still using an 8x6 resolution. So to them, everything looks the way you used to see it. And as for this forum, i've forced the pages to be thinner. It makes reading easier.

If you need to, you might want to contain your web page content with a <div align="center"> </div> tag. That will center your tables in the browser wiindow, for anyone that visits your site with a high resolution. It's not crucial by any means. More of a preference really.

As for reactivating PS, I believe you need to contact Adobe for that. Is that right do you think Pierre? You might find specific info on that on Adobe's site.

OK, Thank you, 1024 X 768 is a more practical size anyway, I wish I had stared using it earlier. I don't know how to use HTML code, I use CSB, a program that allows me to design the site visually just as it will look online and then it converts it to HTML, so I can just continue to layout my pages with the window in a reduced size approx. 800 X 600. That way my page layout will all stay the same size. I appreciate your help and info! I'll be sure to hang around this forum as there is so much I can learn from all you pros! I'm glad I bought the PS-CS book too, its like the Photoshop Bible! I love to experiment but i'm sure I would be lost without it!

To be honest, 800x600 is quickly going away as the default web-page dimensions. 1024x768 is quickly becoming the new standard size.

Most pages today are created in that resolution, and it really wouldn't be that hard to change page-size in your web-design program. I haven't used CSB before, but I am pretty sure there is a way to change the size in the menu bar somewhere. [righton]

I use either MS FrontPage 2003, or MacroMedia Dreamweaver to create web-pages/sites.
