Whilst i love the game and now own it on PC and Xbox, I do think that this 'mishap' regarding online play should have been discovered before release. My Wycombe Wanderers magicians aren't good enough to play online so it doesn't make too much difference to me at the moment, but it is this kind of faux pas that will put some people off buying SI's next game. The problem is that we loyal fans go onto this site and see whats happening and get an update. As the SI guys have said before, we are only a small percentage of the actual players of FM - so the what do the "other" people think of the game, and now a week after launch with no resolution to the issue how many players will have started to consider trading the game in ?

Could you let me know if you have 'uPnP' enabled on your router (I believe the default setting is 'enabled' by default on the Netgear WGT624'.
---
Universal Plug and Play (UPnP) helps devices, such as Internet appliances and computers, access the network and connect to other devices as needed. UPnP devices can automatically discover the services from other registered UPnP devices on the network.
---
There may also be a setting for UPnP 'Advertisement Time To Live (in hops)' which the default setting is '4' - Increase this number (anything upto 255, from 1-255)
| I have turned off UPnP and increased the hops to 128 and I am happy to report that the game is now working. I am able to connect to a game everytime. I have tried both ranked and player matches and all appears to be working
I have also tried other Live enabled games and they all appear to be working as well.
Thanks for the help.

just to give you a quick update. My problems have not been entirely solved. I am still receiving the "Failed to connect to host" message about 50% of the time, but for the time being it is better than nothing.
When will there be a software fix for this problem? Because it seems strange that this is the only game I have encountered this problem with and I have used xbox live on both the original xbox and xbox 360.
I agreee with furney89 xbox live for me has always been plug and play and if it was a problem with my hardware then I should be having this problem with every game on live.

| The strange thing is that it was working when we tested it before release so there's no way we could do anything about it or know what was going to happen until the problems appeared when the game was released.

And My NAT Is On Moderate, After Help From BT, So Much For Fully Compatible With XBox Live ???
| update, seems like a nat problem to me, was on strict played one game, now on moderate played about 6 games last night, still only connect to 30% of games, so that would mean that 70% of people online have a strict nat, so then theres 3 ways for you to sort it (feel free to offer me a job or send me some cash as way of thanks)
1) download an update next time you go online, read the txt file explaining nat, how to check on the 360, and how to get the info to change it
2) change the search on xbox live to the same way the do with many p2p applications, only show the people you can connect to, surely you can tell the nat settings from the other end of the internet, coz m$ sure can tell me when i went to bed and what game i played before bed
3) figure out a way to allow every1 to connect to every1, just to me seems like the most difficult and most expensive,
so 1, then if every1 still moans 2, and if you've got a never ending bank supply, or want to fix problem first 3
.RZ.

Ter, I have already read somewhere that your in-house system is OK, but I think it was Miles who said he couldn't connect at home (could be wrong though). If so, has he changed his NAT settings and does it now work?
I am a bit perplexed that this problem can exist as other people have already confirmed that no other game has this online issue - to me this would imply that the QA for the online element was not up to scratch. I appreciate that testing it on your inhouse network is fine and fully operative, but I would have expected yourselves, SEGA or Microsoft to have put this game through rigorous tests. As Microsoft seem to be quite strict with what they expect, this must be quite damaging to your reputation with them.
As I said in my last post, I am an ardent fan and have owned all CM and FM games (with the exception of the Italia version many moons ago) and I will continue to support you, but I bought the game mainly for online (when my team is good enough) but the fact that I can't get online means I have spent £50 for no reason. If people can't get on, and when they do they find the players stats are randomised, then to me this would fall under the trade misdescriptions act as the product is quite clearly faulty.

Any chance someone 'official' could update us on what is happening to resolve this matter ? And please don't try and sugarcoat it by saying "we're still looking into it with microsoft" ( ). We all just want to know if this will be resolved in the short term, or if we should just get our money back from the shops.

Grandad_ - Unlesss someone from Microsoft comes on here and comments, then we can't really say much more than we have.
It's not only our game that is having these problems, there are quite a few. All I've heard from MS is about the port forwarding stuff, which is annoying for me as someone not that technically minded.
I had mine working perfectly having followed some guidelines when I had problems first setting up Xbox Live. Unfortunately, I had to reset my router tonight, and lost some settings, so I'm back to "strict" NAT too (until I get an "idiots" guide from Paul in the morning ;o))
We thought this might be a problem at our end, but it's been confirmed to us that it isn't, and it's a problem with some routers, and different NAT settings on different routers. There is bugger all we can do about the system, unfortunately, however much time and effort we've spent trying to disprove the theory, it still goes back to the same thing every time, and that is changing settings if it's not working.
Annoying, I know (and agree), but the Xbox Live system is completely out of our hands, as is the manufacture of routers.
