You don't state which version of the WGT624 model you have (there are 3 varients 'WGT624v1, WGT624v2 & WGT624v3).
With Version Model 2 & 3 of the WGT624 models, the latest firmware supports 'Xbox Live' (from Firmware 4.2.4 and onwards) - Verson 3 is already Xbox Live Compatible with the initial version of firmware
You've not confirmed the version of firmware running on your Netgear WGT624v?
I've included the link to the WGT624 family of ADSL Router which will provide further URL's to the Support Page, with downloads
In the Downloads Search section, select 'Product Model: P-324' - You'll get back a selection of material you can download (including the latest firmware)
I can't seen to find a readme file to inform me of the updates compared to your firmware version.
You could also try the ZyXel Knowledge Base to see if there's anything there that can assist you with any configuration changes you may need to make using the recommendations for a possible DMZ setup
Unfortunately I've not used a ZyXEL (or not that I ever recall, so my assistance is limited)
I can't vouch as to whether a firmware update will resolve the issue (I am guessing that it will not make a difference, but as I stated I've not been able to find a readme for the changes made between your firmware version, and that of the latest release)
Usual disclaimers apply - You run the update at your own risk - Please consult your manauls, the ZyXEL site for upgrade/update instructions.

People having difficulties playing FM 2006 online Post #13
Hi Paul, thanks for doing the work for me, but I dont like to change things if they arent broken.
I can connect either through the router (because my girlfriend would have my jewels on the wall if I took her net away, I bought FM on the xbox to resolve issues not create them )
Or connect direct.
As I stated, I have a direct high speed cable connection, so I can basically plug into the wall and be online, and still no joy either way.
Ive just got in from work, and need some sleep, but I will continue trying throughout the day.

Chris...
Could you let me know if you have 'uPnP' enabled on your router (I believe the default setting is 'enabled' by default on the Netgear WGT624'.
---
Universal Plug and Play (UPnP) helps devices, such as Internet appliances and computers, access the network and connect to other devices as needed. UPnP devices can automatically discover the services from other registered UPnP devices on the network.
---
There may also be a setting for UPnP 'Advertisement Time To Live (in hops)' which the default setting is '4' - Increase this number (anything upto 255, from 1-255)
---
The time to live for the advertisement is measured in hops (steps) for each UPnP packet sent. A hop is the number of steps allowed to propagate for each UPnP advertisement before it disappears. The number of hops can range from 1 to 255. The default value for the advertisement time to live is 4 hops, which should be fine for most home networks. If you notice that some devices are not being updated or reached correctly, then it may be necessary to increase this value a little.
---
I *personally* believe (no actual confirmation yet) is that the end-users hosting games that do not have the UPnP feature, and/or a manual Port-Forwarding setup will get users attempting to connecting to them the issue you are experiencing (the error connection message you receive).
The fix above will allow you to (if I'm correct), setup the router to allow a 'host' server setup of FM from your end, thus allowing end-users to connect to you (doesn't solve the issue of you connecting to other users - unless they either have uPnP or the manual Port-Forwarding setup enabled/configured)

i think its strange that you have to do all this technical stuff, when surly if you had to have certain settings to allow people in, it should be the same for all xbox live games, i.e they dont work, but it jsut seems this is having problems, maybe im wrong but shouldnt it be simple to set it up, i had a old xbox and my xbox live was fine, plug in and play easyness
