One thing ive noticed about FM is how they have chosen which 'category' each attribute is in. Currently they are as follows..
Strength (stamina, strength etc)
Aerobic (pace, agility, balance etc)
Goalkeeping (arial ability, handling etc)
Tactics (decision making, anticipation, movement etc)
Ball Control (dribbling, technique, first touch etc)
Defending (marking, tackling etc)
Attacking (creativity, passing etc)
Shooting (finishing, long shots, composure etc)
Set Pieces (crossing, FK, Corners etc)
Now most of it seems ok, however when training a defender, you want him to be composed aswell as a good defender as if he's not composed he will play like Titus Bramble. If you want to coach a defender, defending obviously & composure you need to use the defending & shooting categories, this means you will also be coaching a defender his finishing & long shots which i dont really want to.
I think we need to rename the tactics category for FM2009 instead calling it Non Technical Coaching. This could cover the players mental attributes in the game, for example decision making, anticipation, movement, off the ball, positioning & composure. Non technical coaching would benefit from having a coach with high mental coaching attributes. The attacking & shooting could be combined into the one category, called attacking maybe? The heading attribute im guessing is linked to defending? If so thats again no good for someone wanting to coach an attacker, maybe replace the shooting category with Aerial coaching, this could cover Heading, Jumping, Balance, this could maybe be a coach who has good technical coaching & aerobic coaching attributes. This would make it easier to train defenders & attackers without having to train them in the other attributes that they dont really need.
So the categories would now look as follows...
Strength (stamina, strength etc)
Aerobic (pace, agility etc)
Goalkeeping (arial ability, handling etc)
Non Technical(decision making, anticipation, movement, off the ball, positioning & composure)
Ball Control (dribbling, technique, first touch etc)
Defending (marking, tackling etc)
Attacking (creativity, passing, finishing, long shots etc)
Aerial (heading, jumping & balance)
Set Pieces (crossing, FK, Corners etc)
If ive mis-understood any of the categories and one of the geeks (Ackter?) can tell me what they are or if someone can develop this better than me (which they probably can as im no Dave C tbh) or has any points to add feel free
Michael, reordering the majorly messed up Training Categories is fine, but it's like putting perfume on a pig.
They need to go to something resembling real life. If I want my wingers and fullbacks to be able to Cross the ball they shouldn't have to train in Free Kicks and Corners. They might be terrible at them, and it would be a waste of time.
We just need specific training
Free Kicks for Free Kicks.
Corners for Corners.
Penalties for Penalties.
Etc, etc.
SI had the right idea in, what, 2005, when they did this. Unfortunatley it was an abortion because it didn't seem to work, and no-one had an idea what it did ("If I put a player on shooting do I need a goalie on too?").
About time it went back to something resembling real-life and not what it is now, or some remodelled effort that is what we currently have with a new spray of paint on it.
It's one of the many things that should have been done THIS VERSION.
i completely agree with your understanding of the current module.
i also agree with the non-technical category.
now if there were a team cohesive exercise in there i would applaud.
the current module reeks of stat increases rather than style of play practice. so i want my team to play a flamboyant 4-3-3, let me tell the coaches to get the team practicing this way. ETC
