Try this instead:

1) Load FM and FMM.
2) Set all the players stats too 100.
3) Click on 'Data Sets'. Bottom Right of FMM.
4) Click 'Save Current' from the menu that comes up.
5) Save.

Now all you have to do now to update your player is:

1) Click 'Data Sets' again.
2) This time click 'Replace By'.
3) Choose the one you just saved for that player .
His stats will now have updated. Click save on FMM to save the stats

This doesn't work. Stats go down after just 3 days (fm days). Very disapointed!

I have founf that by setting CA to 800 and PA to 16383 and NOT adjusting the individual stats gices a world class player in that position. Ok, so he doesnt have all 20's but he is usually the one of if not the best player in that position. And as long as you dont adjust the individual stats they dont go down

That is true but his reputation (sometimes) drops to 1, why this happens only now and then is a mystery, and the age of the player would not seem to be the reason why.
