I have recently downloaded the latest patch but not installed it yet

what i want to know is, if and when i install it will it allow me to load and use previously saved edited databases??

Yes - If youi install the patch only then there will be no problem. If you install the patch and the data update, then I dont think your edited database will be available. When you start a new game you should be given the choice of databases to use, including any edited ones.

so the patch and update are 2 completely different things??

There wwere 2 versions of the 7.0.2 patch- one with a data update and one without. Make sure you get the right one for you.
