What I don;t understand is, I spent a few weeks in Manchester this past summer, and I saw the word 'soccer' used more than a few times? What's the deal? Is it catching on or something there?

BTW-I decided to scrap the whole WWSM thing. As much as I want to support WWSM here in the States, and ultimately SI, I just can't get myself to buy something not called FM. Forever now I've bought CM/FM series....I also don't like the fact that SI changes stuff cosmetically, and internally for WWSM. I think they need to just keep it the exact same for America too. You'd be surprised how many Football fans here do in fact call it "Football."

we should start a "Football is called Football" pressure group in order to ensure the word "soccer" is never used again! even the European presenters of the MLS show call it soccer!

maybe im crazy, but i believe the word soccer originated in england.

Yes, it's an English term used initially to differentiate association football from rugby but it didn't have widespread use, just as an alternative. They probably gave it to us as a word of derision because of their football superiority.
