Hi i am currently playing fm 08 atm and i used the new fm modifier to mod some of the existing player data. The main thing i change is the age. For example... changing Thuram's age to 16 years old right before they are around the age to retire so these famous players will technically never go away. Then i would put these players back on the U18 squad and continue my season. But ive come to notice that his stats are dropping like crazy and does not go back up. He is currently 17 with all stats VERY low. i checked the PA with the modifier again and it is still pretty high but why does his stats drop? is it a game mechanic that will know how long a player has been playing and will decrease it's stats? or will he improve later on and the age just matches what is reasonable for that age?

Youth training is generally lower than senior ... if he's that young, he's gonna be on youth training.

The stats depend on CA, not PA... and yes, the game does lower CA if you try to set it too high for youth players.
16 is still very young, with lots of time to develop into his full form. I think at around 22 you can expect players to have full potential...

I had a game on 07 in which I retained famous players using the same method. A handful actually retired at 18!

Anyway, to answer your specific question, I believe that it is due to the players original stats being way too high for a 16, 17 or even 18 year old. You are seeing them balance down to a normal level for thier age and will, hopefully, see them rise back up to re-realise thier potential.

I had done what you've done in 07 since I was managing a lower league side and didn't want to lose my 40 year old striker who was banging them in at that age to retirement and wanted him to be at my club forever, literally.

So I made his age to about 25, and after several games, his stats improved because I guess his age was appropriate for his position (striker), and he was at his peak, and his stats increased not dramatically, but by enough to make the player much better.

I had the same question as you and actually made a thread about it in August.

The one thing I do know for sure is that setting their age to a youth age (teen years) will not do you any good, their stats will decrease dramatically.

Go with a higher age, depending on their position as well.

Ex. Goalkeepers tend to enjoy their best years between the ages of 31 and 35.

ohh icic.. thanks for the help.. but im also wondering if anyone tried putting him back to teens and trained the guys back up to like age 28 or something and if the stats would be the same as how he was before or near there before makign them younger... or will he never be as good as how they were?
