I am well aware of what current and potential ability are, but what I'm confused about is the player attributes you set in the editor.
For example, say you have a 17 year old with CA 150 and PA 180, and you give him finishing 17. Will he start off with finishing 17, or is that when he reaches his full potential.
Please can someone explain the system to me.

If the 17 yr old has CA 150 ( unlikley) and PA of 200, and you set finishing to be 17, then as his CA rises to meet his PA then the attribute will rise.

also forgot to mention, this also comes down to your training, how good the facilities are and hoe good the coaches are in relation to atribute increase.

So just to clarify, if you set the finishing attribute at 17, then he will start the game with 17 finishing and improve later?

If he is of the right age and CA is good enough...then yes

I didn't know this - I always thought there was a certain amount of 'pot luck' If I wanted say, 17 in finishing I would reduce some other attribute to compensate. So if I wanted 3 or 4 higher atributes, I would deduct from various other attributes then load a new game and see the result.
