Using the editor, I have created a MLS franchise for Manchester United. There were strong rumours in the past of Barca starting a team in the MLS, so this is not hugely unrealistic. It will also be an interesting experiment to see if they can create some much needed US talent.
The team is based in California, and will play their football at New Trafford. Of course United will be their parent club.
I have set Eric Cantona as manager.
The current squad is:
Goalkeepers
Quentin Westberg
Ron-Robert Zieler (Loan)
Tom Heaton (Loan)
Defenders
Phillip Bardsley (Loan)
Michael Parkhurst
Kieran Lee (Loan)
Jonathan Bornstein
Drew Moor
Oguchi Onyewu
Johnathon Evans (Loan)
Gerard Pique (Loan)
Midfielders
Johann Smith
David Beckham
Justin Mapp
Arturo Alvez
Nik Besagno
Michael Bradley
Freddy Adu
Eddie Gaven
Danny Szetela
Santino Quaranta
Quavas Kirk
Strikers
Eddie Johnson
Fangzhuo Dong
Jozy Altidore
Giuseppe Rossi
I feel as if the team is not sustainable due to the restrictive salary cap in the mls. in addition the prestige of the league will stop the team from loaning top quality man u talent or keeping any home grown talent.
As for increasing American talent level the restrictions of the draft will hamper this as most good usa players have to go abroad to develop before age 19 or 20.
I have to say though that it would be awesome to watch them play. where in California did you put them?
It would be interesting if you created the franchise in the MLS, gave them equal reputation to Manchester United, but left them with a blank squad and £50m or so to spend.
The parent club would be necessary (merchandising, first option and friendlies).
