I've noticed there are lots of people who are struggling with creating a super league in FM2008.
The main issue appears to be the, 'array out of bounds' error.
I used England as my template and changed the teams from the Premiership to the Blue Square North and South.
In my experience, the quickest and simplest way to create a super league is to 'swap' the teams in editor. The only limitation there would appear to be is that you must limit the number of foreign teams to 4 from the same nation per league.
It's as simple as that.
That will allow the game to work crash and error free and you can then change whatever you want from there.
For example my Premiership Division consists of:
4 English teams
4 Spanish
3 Italian
2 Brazilian
2 Portuguese
1 French
2 German
and 2 Argentinean
And my, what would be the Championship division, consists of:
4 Italian
3 Spanish
3 English
2 Brazilian
1 Portuguese
1 French
2 German
2 Dutch
2 Turkish
1 Greek
1 Russian
1 Ukrainian
and 1 Scottish
I also then changed the league and award names and I improved the reputation of everything just in case teams and players got unhappy by being relegated from say the Serie A to League 2!
I ran it for 10 seasons overnight and everything was fine!
And I'm now mid way through playing my second season and I've had no problems at all.
A lot of the info available would appear to over-complicate matters in my opinion, and a lot of it doesn't work. People will tell you to do all sorts of complicated and time consuming things but in my experience it's just not necessary.
I'll post a more detailed list of the swapped teams if you like?
I've used the english leagues and swap the premiership clubs for teams all around the world. I use the FIFA rankings to decide which team a country goes in and use the highest rep team from every country, so I never have more than four foreign teams in a league - just 1. This works fine for the Premiership and the game runs fine - even after I've retained the clubs nations so teams like Enyimba from Nigeria have Nigerian nationality.
When I swap the championship however and try and load it up I get the array access out of bounds problem. There's not more than 1 team from each foreign country but there are no english teams. Is it possible the problem is that there is no English team?
Also, I've added a reserve and under 18 team to each club in the editor because it doesn't load reserve and under 18s when you retain a clubs nationality - don't know if this would cause a problem?
Anyone tried doing something like this and found a way round it?
I heard somewhere that it requires Charlton and one other to be in the league. Don't know how accurate that is though!
I think I know where this rumour started, but it's not true. You don't require Charlton or Sheff Utd (or any of their previous history or settings) or any other Championship team to make it work. You do however require 3 English teams, so just put in 3 Premiership teams! So there probably is a link there somewhere!
GrimeArtist - The Championship is a funny one and I had to put English teams in there to make it work. In my Coca Cola League 1 I don't have any English teams though, and I don't think you need English teams in any other league apart from the Championship.
There may be something about adopting Sheff Utd, Charlton and Watford's last position and last division (previously posted by Dave Fairbairn) if you don't want any English teams in the Championship.
I did try adopting these teams 'history' when I was initially trying to get my super league to work, but to no avail. Hence I just included 3 English Premiership teams, which is fine by me!
But I haven't tried since I got my super league to work.
Maybe someone can give it a go if they don't want English teams in their Championship.
You don't have to have any English teams in any of the other leagues though!
The Championship would appear to be a bit of an anomaly!
Yes you can, you can have as many English teams in one league in this example of a super league, as it's based on the English leagues. I couldn't say for certain regarding any other nation - but I would assume it'd be the same.
