In fm07 I had great success with using the encourage team talk whereas if I said I was pleased at half time this would usually end in defeat, mostly through a great comeback.
This time around I've noticed the pleased teamtalk works wonders whereas the encourage option always ends in a defeat/draw.
I'd have to say I agree with your observation. Moreover, I find that saying you're disappointed (when dominating but not leading or leading by just 1 goal) helps a lot too...

I'll give that a try. I'm not using encourage again.
I've just had my first defeat of the season, thanks to changing my Ass Mans HT team talk from dissapointed to encourage, as we were leading 1-0 at home to Bayern in a CL game.
We dominated both halfs, but 2 goals from 2 shots was enough for them to grab the win.
I'll be leaving well alone from now, except when he tells the players "i expect a win", because that is just plain suicide.
Team talks COULD have been a good feature, but like much of the game, it has'nt been put together very well.
What works for one team doesn't always work for another. Its best to look at your squad description in your club information screen and then basing your team talks on that.
I've found that you can be a lot stronger with 'determined' teams than you can others.
I usually find that when im 2 - 0 up at half time and there is only the pleased option to select the team take their foot off the pedal and I usually struggle.
I think they need more options for the half time talk.

I totally agree. More options are needed. At the moment its boring and repetitive.
